On 1st St N between 22nd Ave N and 26th Ave N, there should be speed humps and/or stop signs put in. People just fly down the street - especially the buses! - to try to make the light at 22nd. It’s so dangerous. It’s hard to cross the street anywhere as the cars just blast down the street. Please do something about this! All the rest of 1st has speed humps or stop signs.

Transportation Department staff have been working with the Police since last October with education and enforcement. As a result we are updating our 24-hour speed studies, as a comparison to those from last fall, to see if it has had any lasting effect. Based on these results other measures could be considered if appropriate.
I will post the results here for review once completed.

Transportation Department staff have updated the traffic counts on 1st Street between 22nd and 30th Avenues N. Copies of the traffic data summary are attached. Results are as follows:
1st Street btw 23rd and 24th Avenues N –
N/B = 2,155 vehicles; average operating speed = 38.04 MPH and 609 or 28.3% exceeded 35 MPH
S/B = 3,252 vehicles; average operating speed = 37.22 MPH and 741 or 22.8% exceeded 35 MPH
1st Street btw 27th and 28th Avenues N –
N/B = 2,205 vehicles; average operating speed = 40.37 MPH and 607 or 45.7% exceeded 35 MPH
S/B = 3,339 vehicles; average operating speed = 37.44 MPH and 828 or 24.8% exceeded 35 MPH
Based on these results it’s obvious that the Police Department has not been able to achieve anything close to compliance of the posted 25 MPH speed limit. I have however sent these results back to the Police again requesting they conduct continuous enforcement and deployment of their speed feed-back sign.
I know that residents have been blowing up See Click Fix about this issue, but I have no way of reaching out to them with these results. I have copied Kent Ulrich, Traffic Committee Chair of the Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association, so that he is also aware of the results and perhaps could discuss future options with the Board on what steps could be taken moving forward. IE. A stepped up enforcement request, Neighborhood education campaign, Speed Humps, etc.
