Description

Please conduct a traffic study of the town hall area. Problems/ideas include:

1) Remove Dixwell island closest to Whitney. Twice in 1 day cars were backed up in the left turn lane, blocking traffic in the nearest (middle) NB (or east bound?) lanes.
also, probably can't do anything about this, but instead of waiting for the crosslight, pedestrians zigzag in & out of traffic and then traffic is held up for the crosslight for no reason.

2) NB/EB traffic on Dixwell could use an advance left turn signal onto Washington Avenue

3) School Street x Whitney is often gridlocked, with backups sometimes past the Dixwell intersection. School Street could become one-way going away from Whitney in either direction, or become one-way in one direction (the Whitney to Evergreen side is narrow for trucks + parking + snow too).

4) Have an advance left turn signal at the School/Hamden Hills - Evergreen intersection.

5) Day Spring at Whitney is a problem. Due to parked cars & the narrow street, it's difficult to turn onto Day Spring from Whitney; even more so when another vehicle is exiting. Limit parking to one side of the street? Make it one-way from Whitney to Washington? To be honest, I often drive to Walgreens & turn there - it's easier!

Thanks for listening, and hope that some improvements can be made! Oh, I didn't know what to call it, but by "advance left turn signal" I mean giving left-turning drivers a chance to turn before the opposite traffic gets a green light.
