Hi Peter B. In the event of strong winds during a leak, the propane would be lifted offsite and is not likely to pool at the ground like it typically would. Therefore, the risk of an incident is significantly decreased if there are strong windows during a leak. For more detailed information on this matter, please contact the Grafton Fire Department. What happens if the "drifting propane cloud" hits an ignition source as it is "lifted offsite"? Perhaps - someone is cooking on a gas stove in the kitchen, and has a window slightly cracked open, where the fumes could penetrate - reaching the open flames on the stove top???? How about a person who has a gas-fired water heater, furnace, and clothes dryer - if any of those pilot lights sparks at just the right time - and let's say you just opened a door where fresh air tainted with propane fumes drifting aimlessly, reaches one of those pilots - well - the rest is history..... The question that PETERB ASKED - WARRANTS SERIOUS CONSIDERATION - IN FACT - THE GRAFTON FIRE DEPARTMENT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE GURR SAFETY COMMITTEE SHOULD REALLY LOOK INTO THIS.....THE LEAKING PPM (PARTS PER MILLION) OF PROPANE - IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN IN THE WAY PETERB DESCRIBES IT IN HIS ORIGINAL QUESTION - SHOULD BE PICKED UP BY THE LEAK DETECTING EQUIPMENT - EVEN IF IT IS A VERY SMALL AMOUNT.....
