What does that even mean csr2? It is the same as our neighboring alleys were before they got reconstructed.

We are tired of getting the runaround on this issue and something needs to be done immediately. Resurfacing, reconstruction, repaving, whatever you want to call it. This alley has no remnants of any asphalt, it is pure dirt, rocks and dust. The other alleys next to us were dug out over a foot deep and repacked and rolled with asphalt. That is exactly what needs to happen with this alley!

The reason you were directed to contact the Engineering & Capital Improvements Dept. is because paving of the alley is done under the Special Assessment District process, which requires legal property owners to agree to the assessment cost. The details will be provided by that dept.

So are you saying that the neighbors from the two alleys next to us had to pay to have their alleys reconstructed? Because we talked with the workers from the city who were there and they said they just had a list and worked on them as they could get to them. The neighbors also did not mention anything about having to pay to have their alleys redone. Please confirm.

According to our records your alley as well as the adjacent ones described are millings, not paved. When compacted, millings can look like asphalt and make it difficult to differentiate between the two. There is no cost to the residents to have millings alleys maintained if the Pavement Department determines maintenance is required. We can forward your request to the Pavement Department so they can take any necessary action in your alley.

To have your alley paved you would need to contact the Engineering and Capital Improvements Department. If you wish, your neighbors can join into a Special Assessment District (S.A.D.) to have the alley paved. If a majority of residents in a specific area agree to join, a S.A.D. will be created and funded by the residents affected by the improvements, in this case a paved alley. Clarification on the paved/millings alleys: the alleys between Locust and Oak St N are millings, the alley to the east of Locust are asphalt.

Yes this seems to be the case. The question is why though? The alley 20ft from ours is asphalt yet ours is millings? Who determines this and how is it fair to the residents?

We appreciate your more concise information on the matter. Now that we know the technical differences between paving and millings things have been clarified a bit. The alleys next to ours that were redone last year were dug out, filled with a foot or two of millings and compacted nicely. We need the same done, ours is in worse shape than those two ever were. We do not care if they are paved or reconstructed with millings. Can you please forward this to the Paving department so they can come meet us and assess how we can get this done quickly and efficiently? Please provide contact information as well. Thank you!

We appreciate the more concise information regarding this issue. While we may not have been informed as to the difference between paving/compact milling we are now and it makes sense. We observed the two alleys next to us being redone last year and they were much better shape than ours is now. It was in fact dug out and filled with asphalt and compacted/steamrolled, so we believe your milling description is correct. This however even further enforces the fact that our alley is in dire need of reconstruction as it appears nothing like the newly refinished alleys of our neighbors. Can you please forward this to the Paving department and provide us with contact information so we can follow up on the issue to see through to completion? We should not be forced to pay for something that should be maintained. If they could please come out and assess with us that would be great. Before they 'bladed' the alley and it literally did nothing at all except take a few weeds out. As long as the alley is reconstructed properly so we have no issues any more we do not care whether it is paved or dug out and milled. Obviously, the milling is preferable since it will not cost us extra in addition to our taxes. Thank you and we look forward to seeing the pavement team out here to remedy the issue at hand!

The alley has been repaired.

Hello, this was a poor attempt at a quick fix. They came and dumped some extra millings over about half the alley and scraped and were gone in less than 30 minutes. This alley needs to be reconstructed as our neighbors were on both alleys next to us. Everything scooped out over a foot deep and repacked solidly so that it is not a dust/dirt alley like it still is. This is amazing how long this has taken to get basically nothing done. Please take proper action St. Pete and make us proud to live here!

Hi Jacaranda, thanks for your input! We all love having alleys, that's why we live where we do. The goal is to have a nice properly finished alley just like many of our neighbors already do. Not a dust and dirt filled trail behind our homes. I'm not sure if you live on said alley but once the rains come, the need for a proper alley will become apparent. We all pay the same taxes so we all deserve the same quality.

Same issue for alley between 40th ave and 39th ave, 600 block, they come and fill a couple large holes in every month, it is just a dust trail, more dirt then anything else even though it is called "millings" which I use that term lightly.

We need the ally behind 24th ave n smooth out. Its like the rocky mts and going to ruin cars please help

I have been through the same runaround (that is another dept) with regards to the alley between 40th and 41 AV NE. There are constant pot holes needing to be fixed which are primarily caused by the heavy city garbage trucks. Most of the alleys in the NE are over 30 years old and need repaving. I'm not sure why the city only repaved a few here and there in the last few years.
