The City of Oakland Public Works Department has received this issue. It is registered as service request #689336. Please check back for status updates, or contact us directly at 510-615-5566.
We've reported the same people dumping on this block for over nine months. Nothing substantive has been done and the problem has only gotten worse. Now we've had license plates stolen, toxic car fluids dumped, and a neighbor attached in this block in the last two weeks.

The City of Oakland Call Center has received this issue. It is registered as service request #690870. Please check back for status updates, or contact us directly at 510-615-5566.
Thank you for contacting the Oakland Call Center, but additional information will be needed before your service request can be processed. Can you please give an accurate description of the items dumped at this location? This information will help us better process your request. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. Also, are there individuals living in the campers that are parked overnight?
Dear Call Center, would you please provide US HERE with additional information, with pictures, of the work that's done before closing issues? Public works is not helping address this recurring problem. Perhaps you can refer us to a single person to help do so?
Items still evident:
shopping carts (filled)
tarped weight machine?
tires
remnants of bike frames, chairs, lawn mowers
furnishings: chairs, sofa
dumbbells
a white box, maybe a cabinet or appliance
extension ladder
plastic storage bins
garbage bin?
blankets
motorcycle and motorcycle parts
crock pot?
batteries?
patio cover/tarp w/metal legs
This shows loading doc being used yesterday morning as it is almost daily, i.e. when the building owner/company (Atthowe Art Storage) are on-site to see the graffiti and dumping.
There are yet more rv's and tents than this picture as of today. public works has been very inefficient at addressing this problem as I have been on this location for more than 2 years and we consistently call our beat police and use see click fix, but the problem is rarely adequately addressed...
There are currently more than 7 rvs and tents on BOTH sides of the block, and four big trash piles.
at any hour of the night or day there may be 3 or more people loitering and shuffling JUNK around.
My employees (who live in the neighborhood) and customers dont feel safe or comfortable using the sidewalks or nearby parking spaces.
The people who live and work in the neighborhood legitimately are being displaced by unchecked garbage/sewage/ gasoline/propane and omnipresence of folks who are taking advantage of the city's lack of response.
Head count of people who are living on the curb outside my business right now is:
"boxing bob" + his lady
"john wayne" and his 3 compatriots
"sean" who needs mental help
an older couple
a chubby white guy with a southern accent, whose name escapes me but has several RVS and vehicles in the nieghborhood
an older couple living in a tent on the sidewalk.
Possibly more.
I know them because they have been here for SOO LONG. and I've been trying to ask them to be respectful to my business and the pedestrians to no avail..
Local crime has gone up.
I am not a timid person. I have reached out respectfully to these folks many times and I myself am feeling very uneasy with the state of the neighborhood as of late.
I have also contacted our local beat police. but the city really needs to do something to clean up this area as it has been on and off between, sad but tolerable to dangerously rampant.
Could we get a clean up effort for BOTH sides of the street, AND restrictive parking where we could call tow trucks for abandoned or broken down vehicles or vehicles parked for months at a time with garbage all around them.
I imagine the tow people would be actually responsive to the pandemic.
This corner has become a frequent spot for illegal dumping, including car and engine parts that may contain hazardous materials that soil the ground water. This is not a safe corner. Could we please get a clean up effort for and restrictive parking where we could call tow trucks for abandoned or broken down vehicles or vehicles parked for months at a time with garbage all around them. Thank you.
Thank you for your request. According to our system, we already have an open service request of this kind at this location. Your request has been combined with service request #678541. If you would like to check the status of the request, please contact the Public Works Call Center at 510-615-5566 or pwacallcenter@oaklandnet.com. All please keep the pressure on the City to do there jobs. SCF is a good way to document the City's total apathy in serving the the taxpaying public that they are suppose to be working for. For the vagrant campers try calling 211.
Hi David, for our info can you advise what generally happens when calling 211? I see that its for human services, but do they come visit? And do you know if they report anything and where?
I will try to make a list here of all of the related Issue Numbers that we've created on this property and street area, in the past year or more. It does go back many years, for those of us (like me) who have lived here for 10+ years. This building has been an intransigent problem, and the RVs for about 3 years are more recent addition to the blight, which used to be grafitti and dumping, which the building owner enables.
I have had some luck with calling 211, But for a lot of the street people they have to want help and follow the rules to get into housing, no pets, get into a drug and or alcohol abuse programs. Then there are the mentally ill. As I see it our collective government's have dropped the homelessness problem in the public front yards. As a tax payer it is there job to fix this 600,000 plus homeless people on the streets problem the country is facing and our governments have helped create. We all need to work together to fix this out of control problem.
