Thanks for using SeeClickFix regarding your concerns along Oak Grove. Staff will review refreshing the crosswalk at Almer, make a determination, and if necessary, create a work order. We will also work with the City Arborist to trim back the branches near the signs.

We have had issues installing the pedestrian signs at intersections due to left-turning vehicles from the side streets knocking them down and breaking them. At Oak Grove/Acacia there are no left-turning vehicles from Acacia onto Oak Grove which drive towards the crosswalk.

Thanks for the update (just fyi Ansel..not Almer is the Oak Grove intersection). Understand regarding drivers knocking them down but hopeful the city can at least install one at this crosswalk and see what happens. It's a game of Frogger every time I need to cross at that intersection. Very scary...especially when I have my child with me.

What would it take to do pilot Stop Signs here at Oak Grove and Ansel? It's exactly midway on Oak Grove bet California and El Camino and is the only connection to/from downtown. The City's doing pilot stop signs on Rollins and on Trousdale. Why not here where it's much more residential and 2 blocks from a school?

The Police Department is monitoring this area for pedestrian and speed violations.

I monitored the street over the weekend and did not notice any speed or pedestrian violations.

Thanks for monitoring and happy to hear there were no violations. For the City...any update on the re-striping of the crosswalk and/or installing a mid-crosswalk pedestrian crossing sign?

Issue still open after 5 months. Any chance to get pedestrian signs installed in the crosswalk? At a minimum to do the re-striping as construction work several months ago covered up part of the striping? Thanks.

Staff is aware of the missing portion of the crosswalk. Staff will be adding this work as they shift to painting activities.

Update: A work order was issued on 8/2/17 (Request ID: 872) for restriping of the crosswalk, installation of pedestrian paddle, and PED XING markings. The concern about the trees obstructing the signage has been sent to the Parks and Recreation Department as they maintain all City trees.

Thanks for repainting the crosswalks and adding the "paddle." That should be an improvement.

But what happened to putting in Stop signs? What will it take? If the city's going to put letters on the ground instead of "PED XING" that most drivers may not understand, how about "STOP"?

Hi Greg, I spoke to the Corporation Yard and the work will be complete within two weeks max but they will try to get it wrapped up sooner. I will let you know when the work is complete.

We have issued a work order for the additional “PED XING” pavement markings and in-street pedestrian crossing sign in order to further increase driver awareness of the uncontrolled crosswalk.

A stop study has also been initiated to consider the location for an all-way stop control. Volume counts will be ordered when school is back in session.

I walk through the two intersections mentioned above almost everyday (to Caltrain on weekdays and B-game Ave on weekends). These pedestrian signs are a nice addition, but hopefully the relevant city officials recognize that drivers still rarely slow or stop for pedestrians attempting to cross Oak Grove at these points. When traveling through the Ansel / Oak Grove intersection with a child in a stroller, typically many cars will pass until someone is kind enough to let us cross. Because of the cars parked along the street and the incline coming from ECR, I suspect many drivers cannot see pedestrians until they step out into traffic. It is also very common for drivers to turn through the Ansel / Oak Grove intersection without signaling, creating ambiguity for pedestrians trying to cross either street. I recommend monitoring this intersection during weekday commute times, which may better reflect the hazards that exist here, instead of the weekend. I would happily welcome all-way stop control at the Ansel / Oak Grove intersection.

That in-street pedestrian sign has already been destroyed and replaced twice. The "new" replacement has also been knocked around and not in good shape. This doesn't bode well for actual kids and people walking.

When are the Stop signs going to be installed?

This intersection did not qualify for a multi-way stop based on measured traffic volumes, collisions, speeds and other criteria.
