Transportation Department staff will schedule a 24-hour speed study and post the results with our recommendations. This usually takes up to two weeks to program.

Sounds great....Later into the evening the speeders ramp up. Often between 10 and1030 PM, a tanker truck flies down the road...

A 24-hour speed study has been completed and excessive speeding was verified. The Police will be asked to monitor and as well we will be adding center line and edge line pavement markings to narrow the current driving lanes. This often helps to reduce vehicle speeds.

St. Petersburg Police were out today as requested by the Transportation Department, and issued 27 citations for speeding. They will continue to monitor.

Are there still plans to center and edge line the road?

Yes - that will take longer to design and implement however. No estimate on a schedule at this time. I will post when I know more -

I would like thank the city for adding the enter line to 110th Ave. I can attest that this is helping. Granted, there are still those who know the street is not monitored as use it as a cut-through. Hoping the completion of the bridges at 4th will allow through traffic to route there.

With the recent implementation of pavement markings, speed limit signage and enforcement we have been able to lower the 24-hour average operating speed by 8.37 MPH to a 39 MPH average speed. Also, the number of vehicles exceeded the posted 30 MPH speed limit be 10 MPH or greater was reduced by 1,503 vehicles per day or 31.2%. We have requested that the Police continue to monitor.

Michael--As an update, the pavement markings have controlled much of the day-to-day traffic, but we still have speed-racers on the street almost everyday. There is never evidence of police patrolling and many know this. Cars still fly down in excess of 60 mph...I know of a few cars who are obviously testing their 0-80 limits....

Commenting back on this matter. I would like to still advise that some cars and motorcycles are speeding down the road at super fast speed. They will hurt someone or themselves at some point. One slip and they could end up in someones house. The speeders know that there is no enforcement.
