On 3/3/16 at 7:50am, a city vehicle with tag #XD9782 was travelling north on Dr. MLK Jr St N and sped through the yellow light at 34th Avenue North, but immediately was stopped at the red light at 35th Avenue North.
The vehicle then cut across the right lane at the stop light to "fake" a right turn onto 35th Avenue North, but instead continued northbound back onto Dr. MLK Jr St N, effectively running the red light. Later, the vehicle entered the 15mph school zone at 54th Avenue N and raced through it to make a left turn on yellow onto 54th Avenue N and then pulled into the Walgreens.
Nothing about running red lights and speeding through school zones is safe.

Chief Holloway has asked me to respond directly to you regarding a traffic incident with a Police Department cruiser. On the date in question, you stated that one of our cruiser’s “sped through a yellow light, proceed to stop at a red light, and then immediately made a right turn and start to make another U-Turn to avoid a traffic control device”. Your concern was that this cruiser also exceeded the posted speed limit in a school zone. Research into the matter showed that the cruiser was responding to a just occurred motor vehicle accident with injuries to the occupants. This cruiser was responding to that location and the call for service is documented and coincides with our Police Department calls for service data base. The cruiser eventually was called off this call, as other units reached the scene and did not need any additional assistance. The operator of the vehicle was also spoken to about the public’s perception, as it relates to responding to calls for service.
