Same here. The DOT should rebuild the stanchions in their original form using authentic period materials, and they should do it ASAP!

this is sickening and sad!! they need to be rebuilt.

First find out why the stanchions were removed, then address the problem. If this was wanton, careless destruction, heads must roll. But perhaps there was a legitimate reason.

According to Ditmas Park Corner, DOT acted in
response to "community requests" but would not divulge who made the requests. CB 14 should demand not only the restoration of the stanchions but details of who made the "requests," on what basis and DOT's decision making process in this matter. FOIL the information if necessary.

As a resident and homeowner in this community, I received no notification from the DOT regarding the destruction of these stone street name gateposts, which are of great architectural, historic and cultural significance to the area and Brooklyn?

The DOT's actions in this matter have been reckless, ungracious and inconsiderate to the community and the city's very fabric. Unbelievable!

Apparently, the DoT took down the historic stanchions in response to complaints about garbage accumulating around them. Sort of like tearing down a house because a toilet is stopped up. Pure genius (that's sarcasm, by the way . . .). The DoT has said that they will rebuild them, but I'll believe it when I see it.
