Agreed. I wish the construction company that did most of the damage to the road at the bottom of the dip could be held accountable for some of it, but I'm guessing that's unlikely to happen since they're probably out of business. But either way, the road is sorely in need of repair. And while we're at it, we should find a way to do some traffic calming. The long stretch of downhill means that most people speed way too much on this road, and given there are many walkers on the road, with no sidewalks, this is a bad accident waiting to happen.
COBI council promised us that this would get fixed 2011/2012 after they "took" the $500K federal grant already allocated for the repair to use for Winslow Ave which resulted in the grant instead being lost! COBI needs to stop promising but perform since this road is rated the second worst road on BI. Besides a better surface and no pothols (we recently had to pay for alignment partly due to driving on this poor road every day), sidewalks are also badly needed since this road is being used by many pedestrians accessing the ferry and downtown. It is an accident waiting to happen with people walking at dark without proper lighting and on the wrong side of the street being hit by a car. We barely saw these kind of very trusting pedestrians twice during the winter dark to avoid hitting them in recent years. PLEASE, get it done ASAP.
The City makes themselves look quite bad when they choose to not even acknowledge major public safety concerns such as this. If the City does not wish to participate in See Click Fix, they should simply say so, and it will help them to stop looking so bad.
Yeah, the City needs to re-prioritize and target potholes/fixing our roads i.o. keeping way too much staff for our sized city. If we trimmed the staff and endless consultant reports, we could actually have enough money for roads. Eisenhower coined the term the industrial-military complex and our city has learned from that and created the staff runs the council complex. Our only hope is if the new city manager Doug Schulze is strong enough (a Churchill figure!) to fight this complex and give us the city we deserve.
Maybe our comments helped since the city now has about $300K to do 30% and 95% design and get bids to repair this road (don't know how good the new surface is going to be yet but it must be better than the temporary job now?), install sidewalk on the North side all the way from Ferncliff to Grand Ave, some stormwater changes (probably new ditches when they widen road but hopefully more retainage/swales to prevent stormwater from going into Eagle Harbor?) and add about 5' more road surface for a bicycle lane on alternating sides (mostly the uphill side). Hopefully it's for real this time and they will have the funding ready when the design is done by end of 2014?

Also, given there's almost no room for expansion without encroaching on private property, how do we find out what process the city will use to approach people about this?

The recent rains have caused very large potholes to appear in the low section nearer to Ferncliffe Ave. The road is becoming more and more dangerous.
When we can expect some kind of action?
