2232 Soundview Dr Ne & Intersection Of Soundview Dr Ne With Belfaire Ne Fort Ward Bainbridge Island, Washington
A dangerous blind corner at the intersection of Belfair NE and Soundview DR NE exist for those wishing to turn left or right onto either street in this very short block of in Fort Ward. It is compounded that the tenants of the commercial enterprise at 2232 Soundview can only park on the street in front of the building. The existing driveway and garage for the building was taken away for other uses when the building although in R-2 single family only residential zone was rezoned into a duplex. All their parking became street parking. We are an unusual community because we are very pedestrian here. Belfair is the gateway to Rich Passage Park which gets tremendous use from people jogging, strolling, walking dogs, children bcycling, skate browsing. Parents feel safe letting their kids walk home from the school bus which has a stop at Befair and Fort Ward Hill Rd (which runs parallel to Soundview Dr N E). Also That intersection is the stop for Kitsap Transit. Belfair although short is a very busy and important street in our community. It is so wonderful to see kids out playing in the afternoons. (not so much doing video games) use of these roads as pedestrian thoroughfares gives us a high quality of life. In order to make a left turn from Belfaire onto Soundview Dr a driver or walker must swing wide to the right because you cannot see if anyone is heading south on Soundview. We ourselves have had to take evasive action at least twice to avoid getting hit by another vehicle both turning right and turning left to and from Belfair. Looking at the photos start at the bottom which is the approach from turning left onto Belfaire to make a left onto Soundview. It is difficult to see if another vehicle or child is coming until you are almost on top of them. The picture on the side is driving south on Soundview ready to turn right on Bellfair again no visibilty until you are at the intersection. This can be fixed with signage and with having a commercial enterprise provide parking for is customers on site as it was once designed for. Perhaps also modifying the fence so it doesn't obstruct visibility of oncoming traffic. One grandmother is so concerned she won't let her grandson play in the street with his friends anymore because of the danger presented. A woman gets up extra early to take her dog to the park because, she can never feel sure is a driver will see her in time turning onto Belfaire. Thanks for your consideration.
