I am the parent of one of the many kids who regularly plays with said sports equipment. It turns tiny park that has no recreational value into a place where kids big and small are welcome to play and enjoy themselves. It is a fixture in the community and vital place of gathering and recreation. It is stewarded by a group of neighbors who are welcoming to all.

I too live in this neighborhood and whoever posted this complaint is out of touch with the community they live in. This "park" is consistently ignored by the city as the sign is on the opposite side of the boulevard. The group of residents who frequent the side in question maintain the grounds throughout all seasons and have graciously allowed their personal belongings and equipment to be used by anyone who happens upon it. Without these resident's dedication to the park it would fall into overgrowth and decay like I've seen elsewhere in the city. Currently children big and small are welcomed and it frequently sees more use than some of the more widely known parks in the area.

Finally, whoever originally posted this stinks of "stay off my lawn" vibes, which goes against all that I like to believe Ann Arbor stands for.

I coached my kids 1st grade soccer team a few years ago. Practice was supposed to be at Abbot but if you know anything about the Abbot playground you know it turns into a bog every spring & fall, so much so that the grass is often over 6 inches because the city can’t mow it. Also there are no soccer goals/nets at Abbot, so not an ideal place for a soccer team to practice. When I saw small goals in Hollywood park I decided to try practice there. It was great. Having the goal there really helped us be able to practice. So I along with the 10 families on the team appreciated the “sports equipment”

I would suggest the original poster talk to your neighbors. People enjoying and spending time in a city park does not seem like a problem, but I don’t know maybe what it is intended for as a place to enjoy and commune.

As a former NAP Steward for Hollywood Park, I applaud the light strings that circle the forgotten side of Hollywood Park. The lights are the only reason that this neighborhood now knows that families of flying squirrels inhabit this wonderful Ann Arbor park, and neighborhood.
