Where is there a safe path for pedestrians??? Why is it a free for all in Fulop’s Jersey City?

Is this on Cottage or on JFK? It is not clear from the map.

This looks like Cottage St and Kennedy Blvd. at the former PepBoys site. But I defer to the submitter.

They received the full sidewalk closure permit. I know there is a lot of construction going on and it is tough finding on street parking, but the City cannot stop someone from developing their property. The street was deemed too narrow to create a pedestrian walk way and the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street is open and should be used.

The city could and should require a pedestrian walkway and not permit construction with out it.

Even if that means that it would be pushed out into the street and then parking taken away on the other side of the street?

They can fence side walk but they have encroached side walk and street

I'm tired of playing frogger crossing in the middle of the block to get anywhere in Jersey City. Other cities are able to accommodate pedestrians when a sidewalk is blocked due to construction. We have projects that last for years on the same property and force people into the street, besides parking issues.

As long as they have paid off the people to get the permit, there is nothing we can do after the fact. It is very sad how this city has sold out the people who keep it alive.

Maybe it’s time for a lawsuit for endangering residents repeatedly.

Taking over the sidewalk like this needs to be deemed UNACCEPTABLE. The same thing is going on at Journal Squared 3, the new courthouse, and the building site next to the courthouse. Construction companies are making this city unlivable for pedestrians. Every project NEEDS to have a sidewalk (or protected sidewalk alternative) ON THAT SAME SIDE OF THE STREET, not across the street... I am tired of crossing the street 3 times to go 1 block. PEDESTRIANS ARE BEING FORCED TO WALK IN TRAFFIC. ENOUGH!

Did you check why side walk and half the road is taken ??

The permit has been updated by the Traffic Engineer. The contractor has been notified to create a 5' wide pedestrian walkway. They were told to make sure this happens b the end of tomorrow's work day. Please update us here if this has not happened by the end of tomorrow.

Now it's even worse with 5 ft in middle of street

Ask them to move fence to the the side walk and then create 5 ft temporary side walk

The construction will be up to the property line, the curb. The pedestrian walkway has been required and created.

It looks like 2-3 feet maximum from the picture. The curb IS their property line. Am is not seeing it correctly?

Oh, you mean further down, I understand now. I believe, the property line where the Pep Boys decided to cut further into their property line, is not their property line. Along the curb in the forefront is the property line all the way to JFK. It is not clear why there was that cut in, but it was probably created by the property owner to create customer parking.
Let me confirm this and if it is not true, let me discuss with the traffic engineer.

Thank you for continuing to get me to look at this to resolve this properly. I really am not trying to dismiss the issue, but sometimes I go too fast and make assumptions. I appreciate the residents of Jersey City that demand a closer look.

You would need to reach out to Planning 201-547-5010 to confirm the site design allowed the developer to either take away from the street (the City vacated) or that is their true property line.

The fence is along the property line. Moving it 2-3 feet in will not create additional parking spaces.
