Description

I used the Cherry Street parking garage yesterday, July 4th, and was startled to discover what I think was a drug-manufacturing activity. I'd taken shopping bags back to my car, parked on the first level, to discover the VERY VERY strong smell of some sort of industrial acetaldehyde. There were maybe five or six people huddled around one of those luggage carts one would find at an airport. One person exclaimed "you dropped the pipe!" Two other people in their party were blocking vehicles from entering the garage, but they moved out of the way.
I raise the issue because, whatever was truly going on, it seems like people were using highly flammable solvents in an enclosed area with parked vehicles and pedestrian traffic at around 3:00 PM. I did not feel individually threatened, but I got my car out of that space as quickly as I could.
