I just received an Email from you on this issue, which confuses me. The first line says:
"Your issue titled "All related property problems" has been closed."

But several paragraphs later, you say:
"Our staff has completed its investigation of your complaint. An internal work order will now be generated to resolve your issue. If you have any further questions please contact Call City Call at 419-936-2020"

So is this problem being pursued, or dropped?.

I am a another person living in this area and I would also like to know if this issue is being addressed or not. Again, today the rooster was making a great deal of noise.

On 12/8 an inspector from our division of Code Enforcement responded to the complaint, and during the inspection, found that the chicken coop is clean and neat, and the chickens / roosters did not make any noise at him when he approached the fenced in area.

The City of Toledo Municipal Code only allows inspectors to issue orders when a nuisance condition is found upon inspection.

We have referred this issue to the Toledo Police Department which enforces noise complaints.

Good luck with this nuisance! I have the same problem where I live, reports and calls to the city are useless. The rooster here crows all different hours of the day.
These are farm animals and should not be allowed in the city.

Well, I am going to start writing, emailing, and calling the mayor and the city council to address this issue. If you want change your voice must be heard. I would encourage everyone that has a issue with chicken coops to do the same.

Was the inspector at the coop at sunrise? That is when rooster's generally crow. If he came during 'normal working hours' the rooster will probably be quiet. The Police won't come for this kind of noise complaint. I agree with the other commenters and will also contact my councilman and the mayor.

We need to contact Dennis Kennedy, senior mgr. of code enforcement and see what he can do, 419-245-1234. I remember an article in the Blade about chickens and he stated that roosters are not allowed in the city. Chickens were ok if not a nuisance. The rooster around here crows during the day, not only in the morning!

I have attached part of an article from the 8/19/2014 Toledo Blade. Please note what is in the red box, whereas Mr. Kennedy, Senior Manager of Toledo's Code Enforcement, says that the city does NOT allow roosters. So how can your inspector have found that the owners were not in violation, since there is clearly at least one rooster on the property??

I like the part where Kennedy says "Chickens are allow until they become a nuisance for neighbors." Guess what it is a nuisance. Remove the rooster.

Came home today, and they had the rooster and hens out of the coop wandering around the backyard today, making all kinds of noise. I think they have about 15 chickens back there.

I hope to see some action taken regarding your complaint before I file my 3rd report with the city regarding this nuisance. They really need a new city ordinance for this problem. Just hope the chicken coop doesn't invite rats!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I spoke with Mr. Kennedy today on the phone. I had a nice conversation with him about this issue. Overall, this problem is not going to be fix until the mayor and city council pass some kind of ordinance about regulating backyard chickens. I stress to anyone that reads this message to continue to contact the mayor and the city council to let them know that this is an issue and they need to address it.

Thanks for passing on the information from Mr. Kennedy, but in the article he did state roosters are not allowed. So nothing can be done specifically about the rooster? I wouldn't hold out much hope for council or the mayor to change the ordinance regarding chickens until many more complaints came in, not just a few from here. I'll send a few emails out to the mayor and council and see who responds.

Well, if I don't get the change that I want, I am willing to put this up on the ballot for a vote by the people. It needs to have some kind of regulation. The City of Toledo needs to make a change, because I'm willing to lead this cause to see it happen if they cannot do it themselves.

I'm just sending this message, in hope that the local government will be reading this soon. It was pretty interesting in having family over from out of town and while opening presents and having dinner we had to listen to the rooster crow throughout the day.

Doesn't the current code read "no roosters"?

You would think it would. However, at this time there is nothing in the current code addressing roosters. Which means I get to hear this nuisance everyday.

Same here with the rooster problem in my neighborhood, crowing yesterday at 11:30 am!! No one from the city seems to care about this nuisance. Might be different if they lived close enough to hear it!

Hopefully Mr. Waniewski (Blade article today) can help with this nuisance of chickens and other animals, maybe get something on a ballot to end the problem. We should all contact our council members in support of Mr. Waniewski. Not a laughing matter to see and hear chickens and roosters all hours of the day!

I agree with Andy. I just Emailed Mr. Steel ( Steven.Steel@toledo.oh.gov ), with a CC: to Tom Waniewski ( tom.waniewski@toledo.oh.gov ). I urge each of you to do the same with your respective council person.

I will be emailing them and attending the meeting.

I have sent emails out also, but I have to wonder if just adding chickens to the list of required permits is going to solve the nuisance or crowing problem. I'm still a supporter of chickens or like animals not be allowed at all in the city. I can't be at the meeting on tuesday but if anyone finds out the results,please post here. Thanks.

I just got an Email from Councilman Waniewski. Here is what he said regarding the 2/17 Council meeting.

"The meeting Tuesday will NOT be one for public discussion. We'll move it at
that meeting to Neighborhoods Committee, which I co-chair. The date for
that meeting has not been set, but I will alert you when it is."

So no need to go to the 2/17 Council meeting. I'll post a note here when the Neighborhoods Committee meeting is set.

The Neighborhoods Committee meeting is Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 4:00 pm. I plan on being there and hope anyone else that has an issue with this should try to be there. I was listening to the audio tapes of the agenda dealing with this issue from city council. It was interesting hearing some of the remarks being made. Here is the link to the audio. Thanks for the update on the Neighborhoods meeting. Very interesting remarks on the audio link. I hope Mr. Waniewski doesn't back off on this issue.

So will the health department be handling this now since according to Toledo's website it's under health code?? I don't know who to call

I may have missed it, but was anything actually passed regarding chickens? I thought the meeting today was to discuss it and then council would vote on it?

Anyone have any results from the meeting on March 4? Seems like this issue has been dropped.
In the meantime, rooster still crowing at 12:31 pm today.

This whole app has been dropped it seems. More wasted money

Last that I have heard was that Councilman Waniewski was working on drafting some legislation that addresses the limit on number of hens per yard size, a rooster ban, set backs, and disposal of waste. I have been busy with work for the last few weeks and was out of town for awhile, so I am planning on emailing him to see where he is at regarding this issue. I would encourage everyone to continue to email and/or write to make sure this issue is addressed.
