The standing water mixed with the enormous amount of pigeon crap makes for a funky smelling obstacle on our commutes. I scale the ledge by the fence to get passed it

Not only is this puddle a nuisance to cross, but it's also unsanitary. The water never seems to go down or dry up making it a breeding ground for mosquitos and a dumping ground for random trash. In the colder months it fills with snow and ice which is dangerous.

It's incredibly icy and dangerous in the winter!

Is there a drainage pipe from the bottom of this puddle into the expressway below that's blocked? Can we try to get the City to install a drainage pipe? Otherwise we could build a bridge or platform of some kind, which would help with getting our shoes wet, but would probably encourage the build-up of nastiness below.

This is so clearly a design flaw to begin with. The grading around the drain is so steep that any dirt or debris is quickly swept toward the drain. And there is an enormous amount of surface area that feeds it on both sides of the overpass, including a dirt path up a steep slope. I'm not sure cleaning the drain out regularly would necessarily solve the problem. However, an additional overflow drain might help.

I suppose the one good thing about the flooding is that it temporarily stops the community of rats that live on the south slope of the overpass (rat hill) from entering the subway.

Agree with all comments below. Very dangerous in winter with ice and snow. And very smelling and unsanitary when it floods during a heavy rain storm.

The past month has been really wet with heavy rain, and the conditions for crossing the path are dangerous and unsanitary. It smells terrible and I feel what may lurk nearby as a result of the stagnant water. It would be great if we could drain the water, but at the very least can we create a (safer) way to walk over the water? I've walked along the railing before and I don't even want to think about what would happen if my foot or hand slipped (I'd fall right into that mess of a puddle and probably hurt myself). Please fix this problem. This is a great neighborhood and the flooding is such a downer.
