Description
As a frequent visitor to Chochenyo Park, it has always surprised me that there are no painted crosswalks connecting the 2 sections of the park. I am often darting across San Jose Ave to reach the other side of Chochenyo. Cars traveling down San Jose sometimes stop, and sometimes don't. Some are speeding. It would be a great improvement to pedestrian safety, to add a crosswalk on San Jose Ave, on either side of the park, circled below: [See attached photo.]

Vehicles often drive over the speed limit in this intersection and not having proper well lit crosswalk(s) connect the two sides of the park is a safety risk.
There have been too many accidents with pedestrians in Alameda to not take action on this.
What are the steps to resolving this otherwise imminent risk that is not worth sitting on the sidelines?

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. San Jose Ave is proposed to be a traffic-calmed bicycle boulevard in the draft Active Transportation Plan recommendations. This would include crossing improvements at key intersections, including High St. More information is here: www.activealameda.org/Recommendations#section-3. The full draft Active Transportation Plan should be released in spring 2022. Join the mailing list here: www.alamedaca.gov/Subscribe
Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments.
