  If you are not receiving any one of theses services because your voices are ignored in the halls of power, then you have no alternative than to sue to obtain them.

  In a lawsuit filed four weeks ago, grassroots group Neighbors Together Oakland is demanding that the city enforce the encampment management policy the City Council passed last October. By failing to enforce the policy and find shelter for people sleeping outside, city staff have put Oakland’s housed residents and unhoused residents of the camps in danger, according to the lawsuit. Between November 2020 and June 2021 there were about 510 encampment fires in the city, according to the suit. And thanks to failed city policies, housed and unhoused Oakland residents are subject to “the constant threat of disease, build up of abandoned cars and wrecked vehicles, vermin, fires, and human waste,” the lawyers wrote.
