Though the speed limit is marked as 30 MPH on Nixon Road between the roundabout at Dhu Varren/Green Rd and the entrance to Clague, it is routine for drivers to speed up far beyond that limit as they barrel down between the two housing complexes of Northbury and North Oaks.

Both schoolchildren and bus riders must cross this dangerous stretch with no help from traffic markings. As it gets darker in the mornings it becomes increasingly dangerous for pedestrians.

It is worth noting that two weeks ago as I walked my daughter home from Clague Middle School along Nixon Road towards the roundabout, aggressive drivers drove honking and tailgating behind cars that slowed to let children cross near Haverhill. Middle schoolers near us on the sidewalk commented on how that aggressive driving behavior was "rude" and "scary." Those same children have to cross the road that behavior is exhibited on.

We will evaluate the location (please confirm the intersections requested; i.e. at Hayster, Windwood, Haverhill, or Argonne) to determine if these are appropriate locations to add a new crosswalk with ADA compliant ramps. If it is so determined, it will be added to the Major Ramp Request List, and installed when funding becomes available. I’ve asked one of our transportation engineers to look into your request.
Please note that after the analysis is complete, the improvement (if determined necessary) will take coordination among several different stakeholders and factors including but not limited to budget availability, DTE, material supplies, pavement marking contract, etc. This is to your attention because this may result in some delay for implementation - we constantly juggle numerous requests against finite resources and capacity which means we are unable to process some requests as expeditiously as some may prefer. Yes! I believe that Spurway is across from Haverhill on Nixon. There is a sidewalk at Argonne along Nixon, however there is no safe way to cross to catch the bus on Nixon unless you walk the opposite direction towards the crosswalk at Clague near Traver.
