As many of you are well aware, remnants of Hurricane Ida severely impacted New Jersey in the later hours of September 9, 2021. This was significant storm event with reported storm fall totals of approximately 8 inches over a 6-hour period from 8 PM to 2 AM. As such, this event would qualify to be greater than a 100-year storm.
Please note that JCMUA mobilized multiple crews in advance of the storm in an effort to mitigate impacts associated with this event. The JCMUA’s storm preparations included clearing catch basins, remaining debris from the streets and securing equipment and infrastructure. Additionally, the ongoing construction work associated with infrastructure improvements was halted while construction material and equipment were consolidated and secured in advance of the storm. As of this morning, damage reported for the city included: flooding, disabled vehicles, water main breaks, sinkholes, and collapsed streets. Please note that this event was declared a state of emergency by Governor Murphy on September 1, 2021. The JCMUA will continue to work diligently to clean, inspect, and restore damaged areas after the event.
