Description

I was nearly hit by a car while biking at this intersection. I had just come from Farmers Market to buy some groceries. After that, I planed to bike to the food trucks for lunch at the Shoreline Drive shopping center by 8th and Westline to Shoreline. There is no way to safely 1) merge into 8th, nor 2) bike along the street of 8th. Biking down 8th is a threat to general safety. It is the most logical route to take for many, but it is too congested, there is no bike lane, and the sidewalk on the other side of street parking is too narrow and not designed for both pedestrians and bikes. I would love for the intersection here to have Rectanguar Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB), a raised crossing for motorists, and the southbound sidewalk along 8th to be turned turned into a proper bike using these tools: https://www.activealameda.org/files/assets/public/departments/alameda/transportation/bikeboulevards_11x17.pdf
