Does all of it have to be outdoors? Can't one of your many sponsored clubs and bars let you have the band there? You won't have to worry about the rain. It still can be free, just the bar makes money on drinks and/or food.

Ideat Village is a free, outdoor festival. Who wants to be in a stuffy club on the longest days of the year? Our philosophy is to use public spaces in a vibrant , inclusive way, that just does not jive with moving the music 'the sponsored' club scene.

Why is this issue being closed?

Ideat Village is making a reasonable request--asking the city to allow them to put on concerts in the same fashion as Arts & Ideas and other large, largely tax-payer supported venues.

Please fix this. With the crowds and warm weather, indoor venues are not an acceptable option. Additionally, bars already have bands booked since Ideat Village is only a week away.

Ideat Village is a great outdoor event in a largely commercial area, why the arbitrary time to shut down live outdoor music in one of the best grass roots music events in town. This issue should be revisited by the City and the time should be extended at least to 9:30pm.

Cutting off amplification after 7:45p means less foot traffic visiting the area later at night. This is the same foot traffic that could potentially wander into any one of the number of restaurants or bars in the area for food or drink through the course of the evening. One must ask why, in a city where there was a Project Storefront to revitalize the downtown economy, such a potential boon to local businesses would be curtailed after ten years of Ideat Village's proven ability to carry on in a peaceful manner. The local artists are a crucial part of the downtown economy. What better way to drive them out then to cut down on the places where they could perform or show their work. If the city is not going to support its artists...why should the artists support their city?

This festival has been going on for years, and being outdoors where people can mingle, enjoy the evening air, have room to spread out, etc are important parts of enjoying the event.

This issue has not been resolved. No viable explanation has been made why amplification needs to be cut off at 7:45pm when many events on the Green (one block over from Pitkin Plaza) go well into the night (and will be at Arts and Ideas Fest.)

Please note: The 7:45pm curfew also applies to Millenium Plaza, behind City Hall.

Idiot village allows local talent to show their stuff in a safe, secure, friendly, and loving environment. Please don't take that away from us.

yeah, who closed this thread? what is the answer? I think we have shown that this IS what the people want and deserve. Don't screw this up, New Haven.

if you scroll down to older comments you can see that an anonymous guest closed the thread and asked why we can't just have the bands play at a bar or club.

First of all, "anonymous guest", no one was even told about the change until the last minute even though the permits were applied for months in advance. Bill and Nancy put a lot of work into this event every year to make sure everything is planned and organized well in advance. It is totally unfair to expect them to completely rethink the entire band schedule and have to scramble to book new venues. Anyone who has ever booked bands, nevermind organize an entire week long festival knows this. If the city had a problem with the music continuing until 10pm, as it has done every year for 9 years peacefully, they had ample time to propose this. To spring it on us last minute is purposely sabotaging the event.

Secondly, as many have already asked, why should Ideat Village be treated like the red-headed step child of summer events? Arts and Ideas is celebrated by the city while we are screwed with every year in one way or another. ENOUGH! The outdoor music is a vital part of the festival. The city sound ordinance states 10 pm. Deal with it! If you live downtown and you are one of the people against the music going til 10, I hate to tell you, but you live DOWNTOWN! Go live in the suburbs if thats more your speed.

There are a million reasons this shouldn't even be an issue, but bottom line, we aren't going anywhere. We are New Haven. We will not be silenced.

It's amazing how little respect New Haven has for it's local hometown artists. They love being thought of as this awesome arts community, home to the "Arts and Ideas", yet the people who really exemplify the arts community of New Haven, those who are it's heart and soul, are being given the shaft.
