Renaming of Harris Street has been repealed as a result of the Atlanta Preservation Center's lawsuit claiming city council didn't follow their own ordinances. According to http://citycouncil.atlantaga.gov/Public/public_notice071511.htm: "The City Utilities Committee of the Atlanta City Council will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Committee Room #2, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 55 Trinity Avenue, SW to discuss the following legislation:

11-O-1004 An Ordinance by City Utilities Committee authorizing the renaming of Harris Street to John Portman Boulevard by and through actions of the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works or designee; and for other purposes."

Today, the Atlanta city council members of the utilities committee voted 2 for (C.T. Martin and Aaron Watson) and 2 against (Carla Smith and Yolanda Adrean) and Natalie Archibong abstained. So it will go to the Full Council on 8/15 with "no recommendation".
