Description
Would it be possible to install additional speed limit 25 when children are present signs? School is back in session and many elementary and middle school children use the bike path at Island Drive. Drivers will usually go 25 until they pass Robert Davey Jr Dr and then will speed back up to 35 even though young kids are using the path and it's still most likely in the school zone. Please make it clear how long the school speed limit lasts so drivers can decide if they should slow down or speed up.

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments. This evaluation will generally happen on an annual basis, with some exceptions for clear and pressing trends. Issues that the City deems to be immediate safety concerns will be elevated for quick action.
Keep an eye out for the Draft Vision Zero Action Plan, which will be released for public review in July and will include a draft action related to speed limits around schools: www.AlamedaCA.gov/VisionZero.
