Description

Barton Nature Area’s pedestrian bridges over the Huron River are covered with graffiti. Messages are harassing. Paint, stickers, chalk, and other markings have been used. The messages and drawings are sexually explicit. They have called for violence. The messages have included lies, vulgar language, hate crimes, sexual harassment, calls for violence, attacks on innocent parties, and vandals have repeatedly targeted the bridge even after graffiti was removed. This must be immediately fixed! There is criminal sexual harassment and other additional criminal activity taking place through vandalism. Train cars, train tracks, street signs, nearby parks, innocent businesses, and more public and private properties have been targeted. Serious sexual harassment and calls for violence along with vulgar and offensive messages must be removed or covered immediately! This graffiti is sexual harassment. This graffiti is advocating violence. This vandalism must stop! Work with MDOT, the city and/or state police, homeland security, the parks and recreation office, and the city’s Public Works office until all stickers and vandalism are removed. Vandals have also burned and stolen property from nearby parks including benches and tables. This is URGENT! Inaction is criminal negligence. The vandalism is often violent, threatening, sexually abusive, and repeated even after graffiti is removed. Fix this immediately and install video surveillance if necessary to address the serious criminal offenses taking place. Sexual harassment is a crime. Vandalism is a crime. Writing false statements about people is a crime. Negligence is a crime. Fix this now!
