  • Fairgrounds Road Bike Path Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    For almost a month now there have been apples completely covering the bike path at Fairgrounds and Rugged Road. The apples are rotting now and causing huge swarms of flies around them. Walkers and bike riders are forced out onto a very busy roadway to avoid the apples causing an extreme hazard and a huge accident waiting to happen.
  • Raceway Drive Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The Raceway Drive bike path has not been maintained since it was built. It is covered in several inches of sand and brush is blocking it. Bikers and walkers are forced out onto a very busy roadway making for a very dangerous situation and a huge accident waiting to happen.
  • 4-6 Appleton Road Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The bike path on Appleton Road has not been maintained since it was installed. It is covered in a thick layer of sand. And brush is obscuring most of it making passage impossible forcing cyclists and walkers into a very busy roadway.
  • Wauwinet Road Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The catch basin on the Wauwinet Road near where it intersects with the public way going down to Polpis Harbor has not been maintained since it was installed. After every rain event a huge one foot deep puddle forms covering the entire roadway. This is an extreme hazard and a huge accident waiting to happen.

    Cliff Road Bike Path Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    Two big orange road work signs are still on the Cliff Road up near where it intersects with Madaket Road. They have been there since May. One has the lettering falling off. Looks really shabby. Maybe there is a valid reason why the signs were left up all summer but I do not see any road work in progress there.
  • Warrens Landing Connector Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The Warrens Landing Connector Bike Path has not been maintained since it was built. It is now less than 1/4 of it's original with. It is covered in a thick layer of pine needles. There is also brush blocking the path. Very dangerous situation for bike riders.
  • 52 Somerset Road Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The Somerset Road Bike Path is in very very very bad shape. It has not been maintained since it was built. It's less than 1/4 of it's original width now. Parts of it are impassable due to several inches of sand on it and brush obscuring it. Sections of the path are so bad you are forced out onto the roadway right into oncoming vehicular traffic. Extremely dangerous situation and a huge accident waiting to happen.

    Does the DPW have any sort of maintenance plan in place for public bike paths? I bike on several of them on a daily basis and have learned that most of them are in very very bad shape. There is brush obscuring them and there is a thick layer of sand all over them making for an extremely dangerous situation. Specifically the end of the Surfside Road path near Nonantum Ave is covered in sand. Also Raceway and Somerset Road bike paths are covered in sand and brush is blocking them. Thank you for any consideration/feedback on this ongoing and dangerous situation.

    Consue Springs/Goose Pond Trail Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    For several years there has been a large tree limb blocking access to the path that runs behind Consue Springs that connects with Washington Street Extension. When riding a bike on the path or walking on the path, the tree limb is at head level. HUGE accident waiting to happen.
  • Hooper Farm Road Bike Path Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The Hooper Farm Road Bike Path has not been maintained since it was built. Now it is less than 1/4 of it's original width. And several areas have brush blocking the entire path forcing walkers and cyclists out onto the roadway creating an extremely hazardous situation.

    Wauwinet Road/Eat Fire Spring Road Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    There is another layer of sand covering the Wauwinet Road where it intersects with Eat Fire Spring Road. It is approximately 6 inches deep.
  • Eat Fire Spring Road/Wauwinet Road Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    For several years there has been a thick layer of sand that is in the middle of the Wauwinet Road where it intersects with Eat Fire Spring Road. Every time it rains, sand from Eat Fire Spring Road washes down onto the Wauwinet Road. This is a huge accident waiting to happen with cyclists and moped riders.
  • Hooper Farm Road Nantucket, Massachusetts - Nantucket
    The entire length of the Hooper Farm Road bike path is covered with a thick layer of dirt and sand. This is an extremely dangerous situation for cyclists. It has been this way all winter.
