Policing Issue ArquivadaThroughout The City Of New Haven New Haven Connecticut - East Rock
It's very disappointing and demoralizing how little responsibility the New Haven police take for modeling good traffic behavior in our city. For example, just this week I've seen: an officer pull his car through a crosswalk, look straight at an adolescent boy waiting to cross the street, yet still pull out and drive away (I just watched this happen- plate 116); an officer use his lights to run a red light to then just pull into a parking lot and park; two right on reds when signs are posted saying that doing so is illegal; speeding without lights or siren; pulling into crosswalks while pedestrians are waiting to cross (elderly, pregnant, and baby carriage- doesn't matter!); flying around a stopped car that has stopped at a crosswalk to let people cross, nearly hitting the people in the crosswalk; and finally I saw an officer put his lights on to take a left on green ahead of a school bus, only to then block the bus in the backed up traffic (if the officer had waited his turn, the bus would have made its way with the children inside but instead sat through two light changes until it could go).
Can we please change this? This city is full of rude and dangerous drivers. It's essential that the police not participate and deliver the message that it's all a wash, that it's not meaningful to insist on and expect basic manners on the streets.

Traffic Signal / Pedestrian Signal ArquivadaHenry And Dixwell New Haven, Connecticut - DixwellWhen driving eastward on Henry and approaching the Dixwell intersection, there is a tree that is quickly growing to obscure the traffic signal. I saw a car slam its breaks on since it had to get close to note if it was green or red. I hope the tree can be trimmed back.

Unsavory scene ArquivadaEdgewood Park Off Of West Park Avenur New Haven, CT - DowntownJust down one of the Edgewood Park trails across from the corner of Hubinger and West Park Ave, in the middle of the trail, is a hay bale leaned against a large rock. Judging from surrounding garbage and the indentation of the hay bale, this is a site for sex. Given what we know about prostitution in the area and our bright hope for the park, I'd appreciate this being removed. It's been there for a while.

Terrible and short walk signal ArquivadaFountain Street (At Whalley Ave Fork) New Haven, CT - DowntownThe walk signal across Fountain at the Whalley Ave fork (crossing from Fountain to the Dunkin Donuts/Westville Wines triangle) is too short to cross safely. It also takes several minutes to change from green to red for the signal to flip (regardless of traffic density). Cars drive far too fast all around there to not have protected passage.

Potholes ArquivadaHubinger Street New Haven, Connecticut - EdgewoodThis issue was previously closed and then reopened- but months have passed and nothing's been done. There are several very large and dangerous potholes on Hubinger in the block between W Park and Elm. These will be terrible once the winter weather hits and are already very dangerous for cars, bikes, and pedestrians crossing from their houses to their parked cars. There is a gentleman in a motorized wheelchair on this street that should be able to expect better road conditions as he crosses from one sidewalk to another.

West Rock Ave New Haven, CT - WestvilleA couple of trees were cut and their stumps mulched but the piles remain. We used what we could but the rest is dirt. Please come remove the piles. Thanks.

Traffic Signal / Pedestrian Signal ArquivadaSherman And Whalley New Haven, Connecticut - EdgewoodThe pedestrian signal does not work at this busy and hectic corner. Please fix this promptly. Thank you.

Traffic enforcement needed ArquivadaSherman And Elm New Haven, CT - EdgewoodIt would be helpful if an officer was present at the intersection of Sherman and Elm between 4:45 and 5:15. Cars on Sherman routinely block cars from passing on Elm since Sherman turns red before traffic has moved through the intersection. This creates a pretty hot situation, with angry drivers and pedestrians trying to cross through the mess. Please enforce the traffic laws here.

Street Sweeping ArquivadaEdgewood And Yale Ave New Haven, Connecticut - WestvilleTow trucks were in full aggressive force while kids were being dropped off and crossing the crosswalks. I saw two tow trucks run the red light at the intersection of Yale and Edgewood before 8:30 (following a police car, who went through the yellow). It is very important that towing not happen within blocks of the school between 8 and 8:45am. How could the police sanction this right in the midst of a campaign to slow traffic around Edgewood School?

Sick tree Arquivada49 West Rock Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - WestvilleI've called several times but never heard back from the the city. There is a sycamore tree in front of 49 West Rock Ave that appears to have northern tooth fungus growing on it. The fungus has been growing for months and is about to fall off. If this is northern tooth, the tree is likely very sick and other trees might be sick as well. I'd appreciate this matter being investigated before it's a more worrying structural issue for the safety of the wires, etc. The attached photo shows the fungus as of a couple months ago.

Large dead limbs over street Arquivada49 West Rock Avenue New Haven, CT - WestvilleThere are a few trees with large dead limbs over the street. These limbs, with a moderate wind storm, could easily fall on a car or pedestrian. Several trees environing this address have dead limbs.

Nash And Willow New Haven, CT - East RockThe East Rock Magnet School blue construction fence causes very limited visibility at the Willow and Nash intersection. A car properly positioned on Nash (behind the crosswalk) cannot see oncoming cars coming from the right on Willow St. Perhaps a different fence, or a lower one, would solve this problem and make the intersection less dangerous.
