This matter has been referred to the MBTA for review and comment.

This is a serious safety concern. There is a place for the busses to pull off the road but they do not. There are pedestrians and a traffic light which cause additional chaos as well as disembarking passengers crossing against the light. Vehicles behind the bus try to cut off traffic on left to avoid missing the traffic light. It's a nightmare in the dark for drivers and pedestrians.

I travel through there almost every day. Buses stopping on the right lane is NOT a safety concern. There are numerous bus stops along Burgin Parkway/Newport Ave. It's completely normal and expected for buses to stop on the right lane of Burgin Parkway/Newport Ave. The real problem is that some drivers don't obey the 30/35 MPH speed limit and tailgate buses. Also, many cars illegally enter and block the Quincy Center bus stop, especially at night when MBTA Transit Police presence is sparse.

Kam, the sign in the first photo states to board busses on the Other side of the station. Nothing about its OK for busses to drop off there.

Catch 22: MBTA gets angry when passenger cars park in the 'bus only' spaces, whether here or any other space in the state, however many MBTA busses stop in the middle of the road, adjacent to the "bus only" spot rather than actually pull into the bus only spot.

First of all, it's completely normal in any city for city buses to be allowed stop in places where cars cannot. It says board buses on the other side (Hancock St) precisely because it is meant for buses to drop off right there on Burgin Pkwy. Second, as the first (left) photo shows, Burgin Pkwy at Quincy Center is actually a "no parking" zone, not a "no standing" zone as you said in you original post. As a matter of fact, any car can stop there momentarily to pick up or drop off passenger. Third, there are plenty of bus stops along Burgin Pkwy/Newport Ave that block off the right lane whenever buses stop to pick up or drop off passengers. You are claiming that this particular bus stop somehow creates traffic jam on Burgin Pkwy. That's just not the case. If what you are asking is to remove all bus stops on Burgin Pkwy/Newport Ave so that cars may treat it as an extension of I93 and continue to drive at 60 MPH, I think that's neither safe nor reasonable. If you really don't want to merge onto the left lane to pass a bus, consider asking the city to make the entire right lane a bus lane.

The bus stop's along BP/Newport are ad-hoc via signal to driver, in contrast the QC MBTA station is a regular stop for many bus routes.
These busses are stopping in a FOUR LANE roadway, on one of the major arteries in the City.
It is not financially feasible to create bus areas at every one of the impromptu stops, however one ALREADY exists at QC station a mere 50' from where passengers are currently let off the bus. THEY JUST HAVE TO ACTUALLY USE IT!
Further, the QC MBTA station is under potential review for a major overhaul so the City residents can use it to park, rather than in local neighborhoods. If the 50' is too far to walk, then perhaps the curb cut can be made closer to the stairs so the busses can stop there rather than block an entire lane of vehicles. This is common sense and safer for all. I dare you to stop a car in same spot in front of a police officer and see if you risk a citation.

The busses pull into the Bus Only area AFTER let all passengers exit, they should just pull in there TO let the passengers exit

A vehicle stopped in a posted Bus Stop will be ticketed. Tickets can be written by the City of Cambridge and the MBTA.

Buses pull into the bus only area after they drop off passengers because it's a "no parking" zone. The bus only area is parking area, not bus stop. In fact, the entire block is "no parking." Any car can and could always stop or stand anywhere on the right lane of that entire block.

Sure there are plenty of bus stops along BP/Newport ave, but those are impromptu stops ONLY required when a passenger requests via signal to driver. However the stopping at the QC Garage is a 'regular' stop for several passengers on several bus routes.

One of the other differences here is that it is not economically feasible to have a bus stop area for each and every ad-hoc bus stop. However there actually already exists a designated BUS ONLY right next to where the busses are stopping in the FOUR LANE roadway to let passengers exit.

Common Sense is for these busses to pull into the BUS ONLY area to let their passengers exit.

This is far safer for all and eliminates detrimental ramifications of blocking an entire lane of traffic on a four lane roadway. This will assist reduce accidents involving pedestrians, other vehicles, and potential road rage.

I'm quite sure if you were to stop your passenger car in similar fashion in front of a police officer they will tell you to move and if you don't quickly, they will issue you a citation.

Besides, I'm sick of seeing busses that I subsidize with my tax dollars driving around mostly empty except for those few who complain about paying $1 for a ride across the City.

The QC MBTA garage is under potential review for a major overhaul so the residents of Quincy can once again use it rather than park in local neighborhoods. I the 50' feet is too far for the bus passengers to walk, perhaps the sidewalk can be cut near the stairs to allow the busses to park even closer, WITHOUT blocking one of the City's major roads.

From an operational efficiency standpoint the correct space exists, the busses just have to use it.

The MBTA has acknowledged the issue and relayed the following:
Quincy Bus Operators should not be blocking the road/cars in the no standing roadway. Busses are required to pull into the “Bus Area Only.” An official in a radio car will monitor this area. A reminder notice will also be posted in the Quincy Garage.
