Friends of Edgewood Park and students from SCSU were out in the same location until 1:00pm today cleaning up liter. Thanks to them! And others who join in with Parks Department to try and alleviate some of the litter in the area.

It is rather sad and while running past the mess this morning it seems that this has become a popular family dining spot. Can you imagine what the "adults" are teaching their children? No responsibility, "they" will clean up after us, etc. Why not a nationwide tax on tax out food containers with the funds used to clean up this mess? The restaurants would pass the cost into those who opt for take out. Likewise the alcohol containers - why not $1.00 per beer can and $3.00 for wine and other containers? Let's hear the "we're taking food out of their mouths" argument now but last I checked alcohol wasn't considered food. Recently I saw a relay race for children along the sidewalk in this area. How sad that the teachable moment to organize a clean up of the area was missed.
