When Trophy opens it's patio, it is not going to pretty when they start wandering up on the patio hitting people up for cash. They stand outside the Pick Mart waiting for people they see get cash back and get ugly with them when the people who get change don't give them their change. RPD needs to start doing something about this; this has been a big problem for years, and the only time the issue was ever dealt with consistently was when Jane Perlov was chief.

Please keep up the reporting of these issues in SCF, as they will be a witness to potential visitors to Raleigh, letting them know to avoid Raleigh as it is a blighted cesspool overrun with homeless vagrants

Call 911 next time to report them as BOTH a Wake County and a City of Raleigh panhandling permit is required

James, the cops don't come anymore. If they do, it takes them 2-3 hours to show up. I am not kidding.

They are out there again this Sunday afternoon. The guy who is speaking to the driver of the car asked me to buy him a Cisco.

Then complain to your Wake County board member - tell him/her that either they fix this problem or you are 'going to vote them out of office'

Is there a humane response? How can we help them to recover? A police response even when it results in jail time, will just put them back on the streets at a later date. It is not a real solution. These guys were not raised to do these things. It is demeaning for them to be reduced to this type of life. They just don't know how to get out of their situation. The real question: is there anywhere else that they can go? a place with a bathroom, a place where they can clean up and wash their clothes. a place where they can keep a change of clothes, get some encouragement, to remember what it felt like to be a real person again. a place of human dignity. Make Loitering without proof of a valid address ILLEGAL !!!
with an accompanying STRICT NC ID law requiring all NC citizens have NC ID or Drivers License with jail time for violators

@ Alice, there is a place for them to go, and they do: CORNERSTONE at 200 Snow Avenue, just behind the West Morgan. Problem is, Cornerstone tolerates this behavior. Look at all the alcohol bottles right out along the sidewalk in front of Cornerstone. They go there to shower and then they come back out to West Morgan Center and get drunk, urinate, and even have sex right out in public, and then they get angry with you when you don't give them money. The answer to this problem is going to have to include Wake County DSS and Cornerstone- both complacent to this behavior.

We had a lot of areas with this kind of behaviour. We sent teams in to work with them and now these areas are cleaned up and peoples lives have been changed. We will put this address on our list. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Oh lordy, all we need is another group of these dogooders destroying an area like they did Moore Square. Please don't Alice McGee. People like you trying to fix this are much worse than the homeless creating the problem in the 1st place.

The Raleigh Police Department has responded and stated we have identified the two men in the photo. We have conducted multiple investigations and projects in the area. We have issued an outstanding criminal summons to an individual on site. However, it is not against the law to be intoxicated and often, there are no criminal violations witnessed by officers. Citizens can call the police and be a complaining witness to a criminal violation which may provide probable cause to charge an individual with a crime. We are working with the owner of the property concerning new trespassing signs and discussing their ability as business owners to trespass certain individuals who are not customers of their business, but who frequently loiter in the area. The current construction on the west end of the building also plays a factor into the activity or lack of activity we have been finding.
