Thank you for your concern. Pedestrians should not be crossing 68 Avenue at the intersection of 68 Avenue & Kateri Drive. These pedestrian signals are covered because there is nothing on the south side of 68 Avenue to cross to as well as there is not sidewalk. The crossing walk is only applicable east-west. These pedestrian signals will remain covered so that pedestrians are aware that it is not an active crosswalk.

the fact that there is not a sidewalk on the south side of 68th avenue does not change the fact that numerous CHILDREN are crossing here. I think their safety should be the priority here!

As you may be aware the City is currently undertaking the twinning of 68 Avenue from 100 Street to 108 Street. This twinning of 68 Avenue will consist of various construction stages for both the roadway and the bridge. During these construction stages, we do not want to encourage pedestrians to cross 68 Avenue at the intersection of 68 Avenue & Kateri Drive.

Once construction is completed and sidewalks are in place, the north/south pedestrian signals will be activated and the bags removed.
