It has been 30 days since this issue was reported. 30 days of unwelcome sounds and smells in a quiet neighborhood, with no response. The city does great work on issues every day and it would be nice to see this one acknowledged soon.
I agree. Do these people have permits for the animals? If so, they must be breaking some kind of health code violation. Trust me, you do not want to live downwind of that house!
Seems like someone is ignoring this on purpose. How else do we explain such a long time without comment or action from the City of Hartford? But why? This is disappointing and discouraging as SeeClickFix holds such promise for citizen engagement.
I don't mind if people have chickens and other animals if it doesn't negatively affect my quality of life, although I think it is illegal within city limits. The stench that fills the neighborhood in the Summer has me concerned as the hot season approaches.
Call animal control. They will at least go over there and make sure that the animals are being well taken care of and maybe they can do something from there.
Hey it's Len Besthoff from WFSB-TV. We are trying to do a story on this for tonight's 6pm news on Tuesday, 4/3/2012. You can reach me at 860 977 0802 if you'd like to comment. Thanks
First, I want to thank LeAnn and others who have helped through guidance and votes. Thank you for lending your support to a neighbor just trying to keep the community in good shape.
Second, to Len, thank you and WFSB-TV for caring about local issues with broader implications. It's clear that the immediate situation should be fixed (and the legal question is worth exploring). But it's just as important to look at this issue as Hartford examines its use of SeeClickFix.com to address community concerns. If City employees working on this new initiative are evaluated in a manner through which addressing longstanding issues hurts their key statistics, and thus discourages them from helping residents, that's a factor standing between residents and resolution, and must also be addressed.
Thanks Irie. We are really looking to talk to someone about this on camera so we can cover it. If you, or someone else could call us soon @ 860 977 0802, or email us at len.besthoff@wfsb.com that would help! Thanks
Thanks, Len. In this particular venue, I've chosen to raise concerns and support those of my neighbors by keeping things issue based instead of individual or personality based. I realize this might mean you can't do a story, and I'm sorry about that, but I wanted to let you know. I continue to have faith that the City will evaluate and address this issue on its merits, and I'm grateful for those who have helped to make the City aware of this concern. Thank you all.
I got an automatic email from seeclickfix asking if there is any update to this issue. There is still no action from the City. Everyone tried to get this fixed over the winter and we knew it might take a while to fix it for good. Now the warmer weather is making the smell worse than ever.
if someone is willing to go on camera for this story we might be able to do something. we spent several hours on this one day in the neighborhood but no one was willing to step up.
We are extremely sorry for the delay of this issue. We have been doing a check on issues reported and some issues are under a "no service request" section so these particular issues were missed out. I will send this information over to the Health Department.
In the future, if you send a issue over to seeclickfix and it has been open for a period of time, please call us at 860-757-9311 to attend to it and see why it has been delayed.
We are closing this issue because it was created with no category. We are upgrading our system and adding appropriate categories so that this will not be a problem in the future. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

If people reading this care about Hartford's standard of living and government accountability,
please vote to fix this issue.
Even if this issue isn't fixed, there's no reason it should be on here this long without any response.
Thank you.
