People are taking cardboard out of the recycle bins and making nests to sleep in the shrubs behind galaxy theatre. Causes serious concern to the seniors attempting to walk between the mall and their homes day or night.
We have asked the city to trim those trees for three years, they trimmed some, but not all. We even talked to the councilmen in our area but nothing is ever done. Very disappointed with the response we receive from the city. Just so you all know, the trees around the South Hill Mall are on City Property.
i have phoned city police numerous times; i have seen these losers shooting up under those trees as well. just one more reason i only go to that mall for the breastfeeding clinic. its a shame, its closer to my house to just walk over and get what i need from shoppers or safeway. these undesireables is NOT what i want my children seeing on our walks to the store.
Yea its the same thing all over prince albert.. My lil brothers deal with it everyday on there way to school, hell I got campers in my back yard most nights.. Get off ur throne and deal with it.. There will always be homless untill there's sumwhere for them to go but untill then put ur self in there shoes,
A real issue. The seniors in apartments around 10th Ave and lst st East, used to enjoy walking on the path during the day and evening, but this has been taken away from them because of the undesirables sometimes hanging around there.
So were should they go?
Seems to me they have no were else so they just make due were they are. I remember when a bunch of them were in the old Holy Family Hospital after it closed, befor that it was the boarded up Scott National building and befor that it was likely somewhere else. Chasing them to a new aria won't fix the problem and demolishing old buildings just drives them outdoors.
Long term problems require far sighted solutions and City Hall is kinda short sighted at the best of times.
Lack of employment isn't the problem, in the course of a day I get asked several times if I know anyone "who's looking for a job. Ppl are either unwilling or unable to work. Those who are unable to work due to mental or physical illness, deserve our help. Those who choose not to work...do not.
How about if we roll up our sleevesand see if we can't help these ones, the "undesirables" - pretty sad that a person God made is referred to as that... if they're simply kicked out, what happens to them then? What would Jesus do?
As a website designed to improve communities by working together collectively, SeeClickFix would like to emphasize the importance of respect when posting comments and issues. As always, please don't hesitate to email contact@seeclickfix.com with any concerns, questions, or suggestions!
The reason for this post was not to attack or disrespect any person or group,it was simply to address the fears that the SENIORS in my building encounter during their simple day to day routines. Problems are not resolved by inaction or accusations.
these people, for whatever reason, have no place to go. i feel sorry for them. to have a safe, warm home to go to is something we all take for granted. yes, maybe they pick places that are inconveniencing the public, but they are probably trying to keep themselves safe also..i can't imagine that being homeless is fun. i also don't think that every homeless person is a drug addict or alcoholic...mental health does play a big part, among other reasons. sometimes life just deals certain people a bad hand. and mom of 4, instead of trying to shield your children from this unfortunate reality of society, maybe you should make them see that this is something we all should work together to change. im not chastising you or trying to start an arguement, just pointing out that just because we dont like something, ignoring it won't make it go away. i really don't know how to help them myself, but it does bother me that people are sleeping outside, especially with winter sneaking up on us....wouldn't want to be in that scary situation.
I have personally engaged these individual that I speak of and they are very healthy young men. They have indicated to me that their homes are in the rural area and that they are basically visiting the city for the summer. I have explained to them that when they approach people requesting cigarettes etc. that they are intimidating them. Some of their responses were understanding, some chose a nervous laugh. At no time were they agressive.....I don't know if my interactions with these young men I met had an impact or not but the shrubs have been vacant since my initial posting.
I appreciate everyones opinions but again my focus was on the seniors in our building and their right to live life without fear and intimidation(real or perceived) for now the problem appears to be resolved.
I see it's okay to ask "what would Jesus do?" but when someone gives their opinion on what "Jesus would do" it gets deleted! Freedom of speech is absent from PANOW I see, but censorship is alive and well. You can't stifle all of us, PANOW! :P
I have a warm, partially safe home, that I do not take for granted. Why? Because I obtained it thru years of hard work. It was not given to me. People need to take responsibility for their own lives, end of story. Nothing is free in this world, the sooner you bleeding hearts realize that, the better. I still don't see anyone offering their homes to these non--workers.
I would like to reiterate the importance of constructive conversation on this platform. It's designed to improve communities, like Prince Albert, by allowing citizens to work collectively and brainstorm some possible solutions (complaining can only take you so far). Let's keep this conversation focused on the identification, prioritization, and ultimate resolution of this issue while moving it forward in a respectful manner!
Yes hard work and the ability to take care of yourself are very important and most of us do that quite well. But some people will always fall through the cracks of society and cannot seem to be able to make it. There are many reasons, some curable and some not but we still always have to remember that they are human just like you and me.
I have worked hard all my life and I enjoy a nice home, a beautiful and intelligent wife, three grown kids who all have good careers happening and just about everything a man could want. But when I was younger I was living a scant few dollars from where the homeless people are now so I feel for them. I got out of the rut and I made a better life for myself but not everyone can do that. So please have a little compassion for them because we are all just one disaster away from joining them. Instead of demanding they get removed go down to Timmy’s and pick up one of those big jugs of coffee and a bunch of cups and pour a few rounds, you will make some new friends and find out that contrary to popular belief they are not dangerous or diseased or whatever other nasty thing you may think. They are just people who are not as well off as you and I.
Do people like megdalts have to be reminded that not everyone is as lucky as we are? These people often have a mental illness, been abused as children and yes some are plain lazy but what gives anyone the right to judge if you don't know the whole story? I'm positive that John Q Public is not approaching them to offer what it takes to educate them about a better lifestyle. This could possibly take years but as citizens of good ole PA, we make sure there is shelter for animals and we have a big white elephant like the field house that we are all paying for and only people with money can go to. Before we start throwing rocks at less fortunate people, we should be demanding more services for them. I would like to pay my taxes for people to live a better life.
I stopped by there yesterday, and while no person was in sight, there is still evidence of people living there. Boxes and sleeping blankets etc are still under the trees looking quite messy.
If the City is so concerned about the length of the weeds I allowed to grow on my property to discourage the drunks from sleeping in my yard at night, WHY DONT THEY CLEAN UP THEIR OWN MESS ON CITY PROPERTY! (intentionally yelling)
one of the biggest problems in this city right now is not the lack of employment but the lack of affordable housing and shelters. i personally know of several ppl who are "squatting" in shelters or in tents who have jobs and families but cant find a place to stay . in the last few years the city has decided to clean itself up demolishing older apartments or sellling them off to be turned into high priced condos sure it looks good to the tourists and is inviting to possible future residents but now we have the problem of low income families and people who just cant afford 1200.00 a month for rent for a 2 bed appartment if you can even find one that has a vacancy . the average person working a min wage job cant afford the high rent in this city. i live on an acreage and have several friends and family members staying in campers on my yard because they cant find an appartment they can afford they are basically homeless yet employed . dont be so quick to judge the path a person walks untill you have walked with them . no matter how we look at it this city needs more affordable housing stop tearing down low income rental suites and setting ppl out on the street!
this city needs more affordable housing .a few years ago the city decided to beautify itself tearing down or selling off most of the low income appartments turning them into high priced condos . the problem isnt a lack of employment i personally know of several employed ppl who are "squatting " because they cant find a place to live . the average person earning a living on a min wage job cant afford 1200+ a month for a 2 bed appartment if they can even find a building with a vacancy. if you take away a persons home and leave them with no where to go what are they to do? i live on an acreage and have several friends and family members squatting in campers because they cant find an affordable place to live they have jobs they're not bums or addicts they are just victims of circumstances beyond thier controll . dont be so quick to judge the path a person walks untill you have walked it with them
