I call the police department for you because code enforcement will not be back on duty until Monday. the police have a mobile parking enforcement unit and they have been notified to check 31 Hungerford Terrace which is the house in the photo.
Can't something like this be overlooked, meaning its not a big deal to park on yards over a long Holiday weekend. We all either travel or have guests come to our homes to celebrate our independence etc. and then wham, somebody complains on parking. Unless this is an ongoing situation, I would say this is not a good complaint when there are so many other problems in the city. and again, thank you for watching, checking out, and fixing problems if there is one.
And while we're calling a moratorium on parking on lawns, who not speeding, noise, vandalism, drinking in the street, I mean hey, it's a holiday weekend! How about a holiuday from laws! And there's all the religious holydays, patriotic holidays... Look, let's do away with all these laws. Most people are nice and will be courteous and use good sense, and as for the rest, well you know, anarchy and mayhem.
In Burlington we do not park on lawns or green space, across sidewalks, in No Parking Zones, on the marketplace or in City Hall Park, or in any park except where parking is provided. We are building more and more housing without adequate parking. We have to manage parking consistently or we will have bigger and bigger problems. Inform guests where public parking is available, and urge them to respect our city's ordinances.
Common Sense are the words we need here. Look the other way sometimes works well. not common sense to look the other way for speeding cars. drunks on road, Motorcycles so loud it will wake the dead, I dont know this house or the reason, but we who have kids grow up and have graduation party for them yet no place for our guest to park (overflow) but for two days out of a year, yup, common sense never prevails. Normally neighbors will even tell other neighbors we are having a party on Sunday, Come on over if you get a chance. etc. Now, if this went on every weekend, I would be the first one up in arms against this parking
Crusader99, you are an asset to the city and frequently bring attention to things that need fixing. My hat is off to you, generally. But, on this one, you are silly wrong. Everyone has their own idea of common sense, and you must know that prisons are filled with people whose common sense was a bit or way off.
I repeat, Burlington is building more and more housing without parking, and your rationale for parking on green space would make parking ordinances a joke and the city a mess. Your holidays are different from others' holidays, your idea of common sense is different from others (this discussion is a good example of that), and your argument leads to anarchy. If you are an anarchist, say so and we can just agree to disagree.
LOL, You too Lea, you are a super leader. but on all your examples they were all public properties. This is on PRIVATE. and once again. not doing any harm for a very short time. and yes, we have the right to agree or disagree. lol. Just because I am always right does not mean you are wrong lol. Oh yes, and also depends upon what ward you live in. in Four and Seven you can park on the grass. lol And I just beleive in peoples rights within limitations. . Carry on and keep doing that super job you do...
As a permanent resident of this neighborhood where parking on the lawn is rampant, I would like to point out that we have to put up with the limited parking too but we don't park illegally because we respect the neighborhood that we live in. Things are different here than in the new north end. Once cars are allowed to park on the lawns, the spots become permanent parking spots unless someone complains and I can give you examples of exactly that happening around here. And it probably started over a holiday weekend when parking was tight......
What's not different in the North End is ordinances do not take holidays, they all need to be enforced. We understand parking issues in other areas of the city, thanks to Emily Lee who went to the NPAs and educated us on parking ordinances and quality of life. Ward 4 NPA was working on a similar problem, and we were well aware that for some reason the North End has different parking ordinances so Code Enforcement did not have adequate tools to work with out here. What could have been a simple problem, resolved with a ticket or towing, took hours of CE time, and neighbors were at war, creating months of aggravation in the neighborhood that spread. Enforcing parking ordinances is the same as rapid response to graffiti -- respond immediately, no exceptions. People lose respect for city government when ordinances aren't enforced, and ignoring ordinances spreads like a plague on community life.
Like I said about visitors or special days, I do agree with the parking on lawns should be banned thruout most of the year.. perhaps the answer could be a parking permit for one or two days when you have company coming ... and yes, try to find parking out front on road, but it sure is hell if you own property and can't have your parents whom are elders park withing a thousand miles . (okay, stretching it out some) lol but i stand by my beliefs. common sense or special permits. we have a lot worse things going on in the city . but if i was a neighbor and seen this going on deay after day yes, I would be on the phone to the police to complain.
The vehicles in the picture were gone today when I checked. There was a BMW parked on the lawn and it was given a $75 ticket. Will continue to monitor for continued parking problems.
And Holiday exception is common sense Lea lol. we own our property, pay the taxes, govt is to protect the city , and all residents from dangers and abuse of others..... parking on a holiday weekend is not a danger nor an abuse. like I said, any other time ticket the person or persons as violations. and in a prior statement you said people lose respect for the enforcement if not done. and also on the other hand people lose respect for the city if too much involvement in private concerns. Now as far as this car is involved, I agree, the ticket was paid, it does not need to be left on here. and if this same car is ticketed again, t he fine should double each time... tough on crime. is my motto, but what is a real crime? speeding, danger to others, texting and driving, danger to others, smoking second hand smoke, (no laws in many places in public)but should be is a danger. those are high level of danger, car blocking a sidewalk is a danger of a much lesser degree. oh well, we can continue our friendly debate in person someday Lea lol. glad we all have the right to agree to disagree. keep up the great job my friend.
Perhaps the three most important , non religious, holidays, memorial Day, Independence day and Labor day. . I know what you are saying Lea, but laws are made to be guidelines, not necesarry to be 100% enforced. what do you think of a permit ..... you know you go get a parking permit for two days or whatever and must put in lic plate numbers... (and this is not in regards to the parking on sidewalks lol) this is parking on their own lawn. for two days maybe out of 365. Perhaps the coding could be changed so people could put in a larger driveway you know two cars..... some have it and some don't. nothing I distest more then to see cars parked in front yards. along with other stuff. so remember I am on your side for 99% of this deal lol. oh, by the way I may need your help on another issue lol.. not related to this and i am sure we will be 100% agreement lol
Cars are gone. Issue resolved. Will continue to monitor for further problems.
And for clarification, this property is 31 Hungerford Terr, not 32.
Closing this issue.
Crusader, we agree to disagree on holiday moratorium on parking ordinances -- there are a lot of holidays, every one special to someone. Also agree to disagree on the idea that laws are guidelines not meant to be 100% enforced, which would lead to selective enforcement and anarchy.
