It doesn't really matter because all most no one in Ansonia drives the speed limit, stops at stop signs or grants the right of way so why should that sign make any difference.
Whats the problem? Going the suggested 5 MPH slower on Wakelee using the APD, Ice Cream Cart suggestion offers great views of your Caribbean neighbor in Ansonia. Where providing you NASCAR entertainment. If your car was parked in such a fashion as this cart you would be ticketed before you can finish a donut. My friends from Bridgeport and I race our modified Hondas on that stretch with no problem (???). We use the Ice Cream cart for the finish line. Clearly the calibration is off on the cart because my digital scope on panel traces engine RPMs with road speed calculations. It could also be my jammer messing with the thrown laser on that redundant unit. Every action has an opposite and equal reaction creating new counter reactive ingenuity faster than technology is released to the market.

It does matter kw, there are people in this city who DO follow the rules. Just because there are ignorant people such as E.SideBoyz who think it's ok to fly down the street, I follow the rules for one reason. It might be your child that bounces the ball in traffic, and darts out to get it. Following the speed limit will likely give my vehicle enough time to avoid hitting that child. If either of you would like to debate this further, create an account with your real name and act like an adult. If not, it just reveals your for what you truly are.
In most areas, 25MPH and 30MPH are not reasonable speeds in 2014 just like 55 is not longer a reasonable highway speed in most areas.
I ask anyone who wonders why people are not obeying the often posted 25MPH speed limits to please drive down said streets at 25 and see what happens. You will either have people laying on their horns to get around you or simply be run off the road.
25 is VERY SLOW when you actually drive at that speed. Try it. People will think your car is breaking down.
If speeds on local roads were reasonable for travel, they would be obeyed. Like many laws, ones that make sense or often obeyed, ones that people consider silly (like driving at 25) are just ignored. This causes speed limit signs to be taken as mere suggestions by drivers.
I agree with your Ryan, that 55 is antiquated in many situations. In an limited access environment, eg - Highway, you have fences and barriers to minimize crossings from people, animals and such. 65 is a reasonable limit with optimal conditions. Add some rain, fog or snow, and speeds need to be decreased. You ask any police officer what the number one cause of motor vehicle accidents is, and the will tell you that excessive speed is always a mitigating factor. I personally have over a million miles of driving experience under my belt. I found as I am getting older, I have a greater respect for the physics involved. With that being said, as you are driving at 40 MPH on a residential street, could you stop your vehicle in time for a child? Your Reaction Distance is 83 feet and your Braking Distance is 152 feet, resulting in a Stopping Distance of 235 feet, resulting in a child in your grille. The stopping distance increases for heavier vehicles. 25 or 30 MPH is reasonable for residential neighbor hoods. When gas goes past 5 dollars per gallon - and it will. People will start to reconsider their driving habits, starting with reducing speeds for fuel conservation.
If you increase speed limits, then folks will assume that the new number plus 5 is now OK. As long as the cops give you a 5 MPH buffer on the existing limits, I'm cool with it. I haven't noticed many speed limits where I've said "What The Heck?..."
As for why the radar sign does not reflect the correct speed limit posted elsewhere on the road, if I had to guess, the folks putting the device there probably didn't bother to change it.

I continue to say what no one wants to hear...
