Correct on the earlier comment...it's a violation of the noise ordinance...and, we've told the park department about the this before, when they decide to use leaf blowers in the city parking deck at 4:30 in the morning - yes, I've gone down to tell them to stop.

They are doing it again today, starting at 6 am. The City did not return my call yesterday and the police were of the opinion that they are allowed to start at 6 am.

Is this the City or Duke Energy? I've seen a lot of the Duke Energy trucks similar to this around downtown and other places lately doing trimming/chipping. Maybe a call to them might help?

Unfortunately we have a very limited period of time to do work on street trees downtown. By 7:15 am there is too much traffic to safely maneuver. The tree crews do move quite quickly so the citizen should not be experiencing this inconvenience for a long period of time, if at all. We're sorry we had to do this so early. Hopefully it will be a long time before we will need to come back.

After morning rush hour traffic, 9:30 or so, traffic is quite light on Dawson Street until the evening rush hour, plus the the trucks are in parking spots, not a driving lane.There is very little impact on traffic but a huge impact on residents trying to sleep. It was two mornings in a row for an hour each day, which I would consider "a long period of time." There are not so many residential buildings in downtown that you can't be a little more thoughtful about the noise impact on the nearby residents during quiet hours.

Damn it. Again, city staff is violating the city noise ordinance. I myself have gone out of my building, at 4 am, to tell the park employee to stop blowing leaves in the city muni lot. Which part of the law about noise do they not understand???

Which lot are you referring to? There should not be anyone out there at 4 am. If you give me a little more information I will make sure our Facilities Manager is aware of this and restricts use of blowers to after 7 am. If this was a public employee, I offer our apologies.

And thanks for the suggestions on alternatives to 6 am tree work. I will pass that on with a recommendation that we change the policy.

It was several years ago...they were blowing out leaves in the muni/city hall parking deck, at 4:30am...I actually came down from the 5th floor condo across the street and asked them to stop, which they politely did. They were on the overnight crew from Parks Dept...unaware of the city noise ordinance, and not used to residents downtown...which are now far more numerous...

Hey...happens to us all. Not a problem. I'll continue to follow up with the Facilities and Urban Forestry staff to make sure everyone stays within the noise ordinance and is sensitive to the fact that downtown's evolving. I'll leave this one open for now until I get confirmation back.
