  • 919 30th Ave N Saint Petersburg, Florida - Magnolia Heights Neighborhood Association
This continual flooding in even a light rainstorm is getting old! Today the water has turned our alley into a river and has made 30th Ave near Sunset grill- West passable only single file and sends a wake well into our front yard! Why is this STILL an issue?

The section of 4th St., South has become increasingly more populated by homeless near the Salvation Army. The people are out on the sidewalks and grassy areas during the day and overnight. The area for many blocks is very littered now. Panhandling is on the rise as well. I was approached by three different people during one visit to Wendy's. It's starting to feel very unsafe. One of the main concerns is that people are crossing the street day and night in the middle of the block. There is no warning to car drivers that these people are going to start crossing in the middle of the block particularly at night. Many are crossing very slowly with carts Cains Walkers or in wheelchairs. This is very concerning and a safety issue. This is also happening a little further south of 22nd Ave. on fourth Street south between the grocery mart and the gas station. Very dangerous for pedestrians and drivers. I have already reported this to nonemergency police as well as the community center in that district. They all suggested that I go through this channel to be heard. In the city work with the salvation army to come up with an innovative response to the needs of these people. Perhaps they can be located with in the property of salvation army and or be paid a small amount to collect litter in the area. Just an idea thank you, kim

The bike lanes on both sides of 4th St. S. and Pinellas Point Dr., south of 45 Ave. S. have numerous obstructions and narrow to the point of making them hazardous and dangerous for cyclists.

That section of road is very popular with cyclists. Every morning, for example, 30-50 cyclists use the road on a group ride. One of the most popular routes for recreational cyclists takes them along this road.

I request that the lane be upgraded to meet minimum standards of 4 feet wide at all places. Debris needs to be swept and growth in the bike lane trimmed back.

Photo attached documents one of the the problems. Others include debris; trees overgrown into the lane, widths as narrow as 32 inches; and standing water. I have sent Action Center those photos by email. I have a couple of dozen more to show that the same problems repeatedly along this route.

Without upgrades and maintenance, cyclists must weave in and out of the bike lane to avoid hazards. In such cases, it is prudent for cyclists to use the full travel lane. However, many cars exceed the 35 mph speed limit, making it dangerous for cyclists on the road. St. Pete Police might want to monitor this road for speeders.

I’ve included many photos to document the types of problems. I have others that will show that these problems are repeated along the route. These photos were taken after trash collection, meaning those bins in the lane were put there by the city trash collectors. That said, homeowners more often put their bins in the bike lane where we encounter them on morning rides.

  • 12th Avenue Northeast Saint Petersburg, Florida - Historic Old Northeast
The number of dogs on the beach and water at Northshore Park has been increasing. Today at noon there were 12 dogs on the beach, most without leashes. I observed 1 fairly rough dog fight, and dogs pooping in the water. Part of the problem seems to have started with the volleyball players who bring their dogs every day, but now everyone else is bringing their dogs. People bring dogs clearly in front of the "no dog" signs. The dogs make me uncomfortable at the beach, scare the birds, and the pooping in the water seemed really unsanitary. I think if you sent someone out on a Sunday once or twice and issued some warnings, you could greatly decrease the dogs.

    Issue:
Known issue of drainage concerns on 9th Avenue North.
There are 3 storm drains having issues all happen to be in front of my home.
    Everyday rains produce flooding.
    ** heavier rains even worse
    Danger to drivers
Health concern for us (odor and yuckie smells are free).
    Mosquito breeding

    Everyday rains Results:
Deposits oil, pollution, seeds, sewer – God only knows what is being left in our yard.
Kills our plants, moves our brickwork
Folks driving threw our yard ruining everything running over our plants and planters.
    Causing shifting in driveway concrete
    **water comes into our home
**water sits on our home putting pressure on foundation
**home is having settling issues due to high volumes of water leaning on the home
** walls are cracking and now floor is cracked and ruined needs to be fixed and replaced.

    Solution:
    clean the drains
Monitor yard waste from mall and school which goes into the drains
connect the drains so they work
put drains in 7th and 8th avenue instead of having them tie into 9th
direct waters from mall away from street

    Acknowledge Problem:
(It rained for 3 weeks straight in our area in August/September)
    Since then:
I called storm drain management 2 times, left message no return calls.
I called action mayors line 3 times still no results.
I’ve been dealing with the flooding issues here since 1982.
It would be nice to know that the city still cares about its citizens
The city is aware of the issue at hand, and the long term problems it has been causing.
2 of my windows are having difficultly opening now, wall cracked, area of our house has moved, the floor has crowning, its uneven. This could have been avoided had the city fixed this on going problem that they have known about for years.
Is there anyone out there that can help us?

Thank you. Cheryl Day 6166 9th Avenue North, Saint Petersburg, Florida 33710

Tonys meat market plaza. How many residential apartments are allowed in that building? When I told the code officer there was at least one apartment in the front of the building he said he was unaware of that. I think zoning and Codes needs to give a closer look at this building and see what violations are occurring. It seems very odd to have residential living right alongside commercial businesses.

There is another pothole on the North side of the 30th Ave. N. and 46th Street N. intersection. There have been 3 other potholes in this same spot during the past 2 years which have been patched, but they keep coming back. It seems a more permanent solution is needed.
