I have a question: landscapers are outside now on Dunlap Street doing work on Bates Terrace's lawns. Are landscapers considered "essential services" relative to the state's COVID advice? Asking as I'm wondering - is it okay if Salem homeowners' private landscapers (and other contractors) work on their properties during the stay-at-home order?

Turn signal and pedestrian crossing signal lights are "ON" at the same time, sending pedestrians into oncoming traffic. When on School Street recently -- taking a left onto North Street on a green light in the dark -- I nearly ran over pedestrians who ran out into the street directly in my path, from between parked cars. Someone could have been killed. Can this please be addressed? Thank you!

Is the City planning on treating the roads? School and Dunlap are slushy and slick. Thanks!

Haven't seen the city trucks come by the morning, and the road is snow and slush covered and quite slick. Vehicles are having trouble making the hill near Tremont St.

The electronic speed monitoring sign on School Street doesn't have an attached metal speed limit sign. (see the attached photo)

While the electronic sign reports vehicles' travelling speeds and flashes when that rate exceeds the speed limit, without an attached speed limit sign, it doesn't provide drivers the context needed to determine the speed at which they should be travelling.

The posted speed on School Street is 25 mph. Yet in the attached photo, you can see a vehicle travelling at 38 mph.

Speeding on School Street is ongoing daily at all hours, and often vehicles travel at speeds much higher than 38 mph.

Can a metal speed limit sign be attached directly to the electronic speed monitoring sign to make it more effective?

    Thank you,

There's still a good 6 feet of snow from the edge of the street into the road on Chandler Street, across from 4 Chander to the intersection of School Street.

Chandler Street is narrow, and both sides are always used for on-street, over-night parking. In the photo, you can see the stick I used to indicate where the pavement ends under the un-plowed snow.

When the road isn't plowed curb-to-curb, parked cars stick out into the street leaving barely enough room for cars to pass, let alone emergency vehicles.

I reported a lack of curb-to-curb clearing after the last storm, but DPW closed the issue without clearing the street. I reopened it, and they reported it was completed and closed it again - but they still didn't clear the road.

    Can this please be addressed?

    Thank you!

Chandler Street has significant snow left on the street after the storm. Because Salem didn't declare a snow emergency, the plows went around parked cars, leaving behind piles of snow in the street.

It is now difficult and dangerous to drive down the street and enter/leave driveways when cars are parked on both sides of this narrow road.

Now that the majority of residents who park on Chandler Street are at work, can the City send a plow by to clean up the snow banks before they return?

    Thanks!

Travelling on North Street from downtown toward North Salem, the turn lane from North Street onto Mason needs to have its lines painting continued through the intersection.

Drivers making this turn onto Mason St regularly cut the corner too sharp, driving into the oncoming traffic simultaneously turning right from Mason Street onto North Street heading toward downtown.

I've had several near misses at this intersection. This past Monday, I was nearly hit head-on by a car turning onto Mason from North Street, as I turned right onto North toward downtown.

This is an accident waiting to happen.

A skunk was hit yesterday by a vehicle on School Street, at the intersection of Dunlap Street. He's quite fragrant.

Because of snow, Dunlap is temporarily a 1-way, travelling from Mason Street to School Street. A large sawhouse with a "Road Closed" sign is blocking one side of the island at the intersection of Dunlap & School Streets, to stop traffic from entering and travelling Dunlap in the wrong direction.

Vehicles are slowing when they see the sawhorse & sign, and driving around the sawhorse and island, and going down Dunlap Street in the wrong direction.

While drinking coffee this Sunday morning, I've counted over a dozen cars circumventing the sawhorse and island to purposefully travel Dunlap in the wrong direction.

This has been happening all week. There was a smaller sawhorse with a DO NOT ENTER sign on it at the island last week, but a speeding SUV driver hit the sign (and didn't even stop). That sawhorse/sign was replaced with this much larger one, and I've noticed police vehicles patrolling the intersection since, but that doesn't seem to be fully addressing the problem of drivers travelling the wrong way on Dunlap.

Today is Sunday, so the traffic is lighter than usual, but come Monday this is going to become a much larger safety problem when cut-through traffic increases.

Not sure what the solution is -- drivers obviously see the signage, as they slow to a stop before purposefully ignoring it and going around the island the wrong way. But we'll need a little help, come Monday.

NC took only the half our trash & recyclables -- the half that was perched in the snowbank cut to the sidewalk. The other half -- the 3 trash barrels and recycling on the sidewalk immediately adjacent and behind, weren't taken.
