    There was flooding again in Clarendon Park Community Center during the rains on June 30, 2014. This historic building was originally a beach house that was considered a gem of the Chicago lakefront, but the four large towers were removed in the 1970s, leaving a broad flat roof that would be an excellent candidate for a green roof to deal with the chronic stormwater problem. The need for lighting for the adjacent playing fields and playground could be addressed through a highly visible solar installation paired with the green roof. The community center lies within the Illinois Coastal Zone and will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2016. Please fix this historic building, which is one of Uptown's most successful civic spaces!

    Without EveryBlock it's harder to inform and reassure neighbors about this kind of unusual activity for almost an hour in hospital quiet zone, so just thought I'd try posting here.

    Uptown Pigeon & the Boss visited Clarendon Avenue yesterday in full Halloween costume to inspect the mile of repair work being carried out by the Chicago Dept. of Transportation.

    The verdict? It's looking GREAT and CDOT is doing a super job.

    • Main access point to lakefront, Margate Park, dog park
    • High number of young children in immediate area
    • 15,700 vehicles per day enter/leave Lake Shore Drive directly east
    • Complicated intersection with multiple lights & curb cuts
    • Multiple bus routes using reticulated buses (#81 #148)
    • High ambulance traffic due to hospitals & nursing facilities
    • Periodic high traffic due to Uptown event venues

    Pedestrian crossing signs designed to alert drivers exiting Weiss Hospital Parking Garage aren't easily visible from points where cars stop & drivers look before accelerating across sidewalk.

    Many vulnerable pedestrians & those using mobility aids in area.

    Drivers look left to swipe cards & advance quickly into the pedestrian zone when gate goes up. Signs above & to right are hidden at that point because of placement.
