Water fountain pipe busted. Lots of water going everywhere. Inside buttercup park.

This is so frustrating. I do my part to follow the rules of the road, stop at red lights, and yield the way at stop signs when it's not my turn to go. But after counting 10 cars either driving or parking in protected bike lanes yesterday (6 on Lake St, 1 on Dearborn, and 3 on Kinzie), it made me want to say "F*** it." If they're not going to obey the law, why should I? When I took this photo the driver told me not to and I was like, "This is not a parking spot." She said, "I can park wherever I want." "And I can take a photo." Yes, you can park in front of a fire hydrant if you want. But you should get a ticket.

Bottom line, CDOT needs to work with the city police to enforce the law and give tickets to cars parking in the bike lane. The lanes have been there long enough for people to realize that they're not for cars.

I recommend bike cops for the job...

This is so frustrating. I do my part to follow the rules of the road, stop at red lights, and yield the way at stop signs when it's not my turn to go. But after counting 10 cars either driving or parking in protected bike lanes yesterday (6 on Lake St, 1 on Dearborn, and 3 at this location on Kinzie), it made me want to say "F*** it." If they're not going to obey the law, why should I? I told a driver at this location that he was not in a parking spot and he was like, "Well, where else should I park??" Um, the parking garage in that building? The parking lot across the street? The on-street parking two blocks away?

Bottom line, CDOT needs to work with the city police to enforce the law and give tickets to cars parking in the bike lane. And get rid of free parking where the demand is so high that cars are parking illegally...because they don't want to pay for the garage.

I recommend bike cops for the job...

  • Ogden & Racine Chicago, Illinois - Chicago Ward 27
Trying to cross Ogden on the west side of Racine is terrifying. This location is one block from a school, and cars are flying off the highway going much too fast for the neighborhood streets. It seems like most traffic is making a right turn onto Ogden and they don't realize that pedestrians might possibly be in the crosswalk. Seems like another pedestrian fatality waiting to happen.

this sign was held in place with duct tape and (shockingly) fell over.

There is a broken storm sewer / manhole cover that a skinny bike tire could go into if someone weren't paying attention. I wouldn't want to be that cyclist.
