I know that Pembroke Pines had contractors picking up vegetation by special contractors. They came by my area on Tuesday or Wednesday and picked up what I could pull to the swale but, since I had no power, I was unable to clear a number of limbs which needed to be cut up. So, we were able to do that yesterday, finally, under 12 hours after power was finally restored but now, there is a huge pile of debris there that needs to be removed. Are they still being sent around? And, any information on extra bulk pick ups? I have a good bit with plenty more to come.

The intersection is SW 69th Ave and Pembroke Road. If you are headed west on Pembroke Road and want to turn south (left) on SW 69th Ave, the arrow sensor does not register at all so people are often going on "red" when the traffic is "clear" or trying pull back into traffic (I almost hit someone when I was going down to the next intersection with a turn lane to the west when they pulled
out without worrying about how fast people are traveling or how close they actually are). Yes, it has been since Irma and power was restored to that traffic light.

    Hi all,

In the aftermath of hurricane Irma, I have to alert the city to a totally and completely unacceptable problem that the city's residents deal with constantly. I have lived in Pembroke Pines over 30 years in 2 properties which are both next to the turnpike. This is a universal problem for ALL homeowners who live next to the turnpike or other such property.

There is a TON of vegetation on that land and a large number of large, overgrown trees. These are NOT maintained on any basis. It is not inspected by either the DOT (or whoever is responsible for the property) nor FPL who will trim the trees in the lines when you tell them eventually, nor any other city or county or state official. So, as we look around our property and look at our trees and removed old vegetation, trim trees, etc. at least once a year prior to hurricane season, nothing is done in these areas by anyone. Think, vacant lots on these easements or property.

So, around July 11th, 2017, I came home from work very late. After about a half hour, FPL cut the power (it was around 9PM). Then the chainsaw started up next door clearing a tree that had grown into the lines. I have lived in my home for about 14 years. With each hurricane, turnpike trees fall into the lines and take out the power. I eventually learned to call FPL to do this when they are in the lines but the problem are the trees, not the trimming of the trees when they are in the lines. So, old, dead limbs, dead trees, underbrush, etc are almost never cleared. And, that trimmed tree took out the lines as well as another tree further down the lines on my block. We are still without power and not one branch of those trees has yet to be cut. These trees and lines have to be on a routine trimming, not just when someone complains.

Since it is FPL and their lines, this would be an excellent location to eliminate all power lines and bury them. In addition, the turnpike "people" must routinely remove all vegetation within 3 feet of the fence as well as trim all trees within 20 feet of the fence to help control overgrown trees to destroy things on the homeowner's property.

Who do I get compensation for when those trees fall and take out my shed, damage my pool or whatever other property features? Can FPL replace my fence when the hurricane split the pole in half and the lines or pole falling severely damaged it and that was the only "hurricane damage" you suffered? If my neighbor's did, I can take them to court to pay. How do I get whoever owns the turnpike to pay when their trees do it?

As a public service, this information should be sent residents yearly along the turnpike and other such areas in their mail. My area has apartment buildings so the turnover is high and renters have no idea who to call or how to get information.

As an example, I pay my solid waste, only, to Pembroke Pines. My water and sewer are paid to Broward County. When the sewer backs up, and I am the person who notices and calls since I am in a home and not the apartments, have to notify Miramar to clear it. It backs up into my home long before the apartments in the area have any back up. Since the homes are renters, they call the property management companies if it backs up there. I am on a first name basis with the people who fix it for Miramar and have to assure the emergency number operator that it IS the sewer and that there is sewage from the line in my backyard since I open the line to ensure it is not in my home (which it never is). I was recently really busy and discovered from my neighbors that they had had backups for nearly a week and no one had reported it or knew who to call.

Why is this not available on the Pembroke Pines website and even in the newspaper we get quarterly or bimonthly once a year, like the WastePro bulk schedule. Who provides water and sewer for your area? Maybe there are a few of us but it doesn't change. What do you do when WastePro misses your pickups? Where do you get Recycle bins or replacement WastePro bins? Just basic, who do you contact? Believe me, if I call Pembroke Pines and tell them my sewer is backed up from the line, the person who comes out, looks at a map and then tells me to call Miramar and leaves. We should be able to have that information.

Bulk has been out on several single family dwellings as well as duplexes on this block for over a month. There is a long history of trash pickup problems in this area with Wastepro and no amount of calling the company seems to correct this issue. We are still experiencing 2-3 recycling or trash pickup misses a month and it has been nearly 2 months since the company has picked up the bulk in this area. Every one of these properties pays City of Pembroke Pines for Trash Pickup and we do not get reliable service.

After three weeks where they picked up both the garbage and recycling as they should on Saturday, they did not pick up the recycling on 9/27/14. Back to square one. Missed recycling pick up on Saturday. This is how it all started. It took weekly calls for over two months to get that picked up weekly and then they quit picking up the garbage. Help!

For over the past 3 months, every Saturday, our regular pickup day, either the recycling or the garbage is missed. The last 5-6 Saturdays, no garbage was picked up in this area. I have made numerous weekly calls to Wastepro reporting the issue. Every week, Saturday pickup comes around and the garbage is still there after being placed curbside either the night before or before 7AM. I call on Monday to report it. I am told it is going to a manager and they will call me back along with coming by to pick up the full cart. I never get a call back and the garbage is out on the curb until the next regular pickup day on Wednesday. I can not take this runaround anymore and I need to get the service I pay for.
