Large, extremely deep pothole in westbound travel lane. Further large potholes in both travel lanes for several hundred feet in either direction.

Deep, wide, car-destroying potholes at the intersection of Granville Road and Honey Pot Road. Westfield DPW failed to patch many such potholes on Granville Road between Honey Pot Road and Loomis St. when they recently did patching.

Granville Road between the junction with Loomis and the bridge west of that junction is almost nothing *but* potholes. The bridge surface isn't in the greatest shape, either.

This lot, which I believe is part of the former Tudor House, hasn't been mowed yet this year and now resembles a wheat field. It looks bad, it encourages vermin, and if it dries out it's going to be a nasty fire hazard. I know that Hudson River Psychiatric Center closed down Tudor House a year or so ago... who is responsible for maintaining this property?
  • 11 East Chestnut Street Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Kingston
The owner of the vacant lot at East Chestnut and Broadway has failed to clear the snow from the recent storms on the sidewalks, as required by law. Pedestrians are walking in the street instead. This is a hazard.
  • Boices Ln Kingston, NY - Lincoln Park

After the County repaved Boices Lane, it didn't do a very good job repainting the lane lines. There are no stop lines, and the lane lines extend farther into the intersection at Morton Blvd than they used to, so traffic isn't stopping where it should.

The worst part, though, is the lane lines on Boices Lane westbound between Morton Blvd and the train tracks. The left-turn lane has been truncated; it now backs up regularly, blocking traffic traveling straight from its lane. This, in turn, backs traffic up across the railroad tracks unnecessarily. The lanes are also still too narrow to comfortably hold vehicles; it's too bad this stretch of road wasn't widened slightly during the repave job to adequately accommodate the three westbound lanes.

The County needs to survey the traffic flow at this intersection and repaint the lanes accordingly, to avoid unnecessary traffic jams (and the risk of cars being hit by trains). It wouldn't hurt to paint in some stop-lines where the train crossing gates come down, to help people gauge where they need to stop in order not to be hit by the gates or a train.

The retaining wall along the sidewalk on this vacant lot is starting to fall apart. Stones are dropping onto the sidewalk. The wall is very attractive to little kids, who love to walk on it. If the City isn't responsible for this wall—and I don't think they are—then Code Enforcement should contact the landowner and force them to make repairs as a matter of public safety.

I'm happy we have so much Irish pride in Kingston that every year we can afford to paint a green stripe down the length of Broadway. But considering that it's been years since the YELLOW lines that actually guide traffic have been repainted, and they're now all but invisible in most places, it seems like a real waste. Next year can we skip the green and paint some fresh yellow dividing lines on Broadway?

The pedestrian signals on the northwest corner of Broadway and East Chester (adjacent to Burger King) have been facing the wrong way for years. They both face east along Broadway—even the one that's supposed to face south to West Chester Street. The walk button to cross Broadway on that pole could use some attention, too. I reported this over a year ago, and DPW said that parts were on order to fix it within a few months, closing out the SeeClickFix ticket. Didn't happen.
  • 223 Boices Ln Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Ulster

Approaching the stoplight at Enterprise Drive from the west, there's a series of deep potholes on Boices Lane.

These potholes are big enough to cause serious damage to any car that hits them.

If not properly repaired by winter, they're sure to get much worse.

Because the Town of Ulster and Mr. Ginsburg can't seem to resolve the blinking-stoplight problem at the Bank of America entrance, this road gets a lot more traffic, because it's safer and quicker than negotiating the blinking light.

There's a wide, but not yet deep, pothole in the seam between the travel lanes of route 209 south and the exit ramp to Enterprise Drive. It's located right where it could throw off the steering of someone merging onto the exit ramp.

The street light in front of the funeral home has been broken for over a year. Occasionally, it will decide to work intermittently, but most of the time it stays burned out.

I've called CHG&E about this light a few times. They've yet to fix it for more than a few days. Calling CHG&E to get Kingston streetlights fixed seems futile, but my understanding is that CHG&E handles the repair work for DPW? In the past, when I've called CHG&E about broken Kingston streetlights, it's literally taken months for them to get around to fixing them.

  • 1 19 E Chester St Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Kingston

In the past month or so, something's gone wrong with the timing on the light at Broadway and Chester. At 5:30 p.m. on a weekday, traffic heading south on East Chester toward Broadway is usually backed up for two blocks.

The light timing needs to be adjusted to let more traffic flow from East Chester. It'd be great if the East Chester side of the light got a longer green than West Chester; often traffic gets tied up due to people making left turns.

  • 235 Broadway Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Kingston

A few years ago, a car hit this streetlight on Broadway and felled it. It's never been replaced.

This is a busy corner with a lot of foot traffic, even at night. With the tree canopy, it's a dark corner. Cars routinely use unwise speed around this corner, especially in the winter -- when the combination of the curve and the hill make it tricky to navigate.

Replacing the light would make the area safer for foot traffic (fewer shadows for people to hide in) and vehicles as well.

  • 35 E Chester St Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Kingston

Westbound on Hasbrouck at the intersection with East Chester, the traffic signal doesn't have any shades over the lenses. This makes the signal difficult to see for much of the day, when the sun is behind the driver.

This light had shades all the way around a year or so ago, but I think they weren't replaced when the light was repaired after an auto accident, perhaps?

Adding shades to this light would make the intersection safer.

  • 201 227 Enterprise Dr Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Ulster

The traffic signal on Enterprise Drive at the entrance to Bank of America and TechCity is malfunctioning. It's blinking yellow for Enterprise Drive, and blinking red for the businesses.

This being the busy season for Bank of America's tax processing, traffic is getting quite backed up at this intersection as a result. It's also creating danger for cars leaving the businesses, due to the volume of traffic on Enterprise Drive.

  • 658 Ulster Ave Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Lincoln Park

When people try to find Development Court, they often get lost on the first try. Why? Because there's no street name sign at the stoplight where you can actually enter "Development Court." Instead, the street name signs are at the corners of the county property, where there are no roads -- a few hundred feet away from the actual intersection.

The orphaned street signs should be removed, and reinstalled at the actual intersection.

  • 49 Boices Ln Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Lincoln Park

When the adjacent railroad crossing is in use, ALL traffic at this intersection receives a red light.

Traffic southbound on John M. Clark Drive could safely go straight (into Office Depot) or turn left onto Boices Lane while a train is passing. The traffic light should be configured to permit this.

Because the light isn't set for this, one of two things happen: Traffic backs up unnecessarily on Clark Drive, or people run the red light. They shouldn't have to run a red light in this circumstance.

  • 294-382 Boices Ln Kingston, NY 12401, USA - Ulster

The rightmost lane of Boices Lane westbound has been crumbling for years. It periodically gets patched, but it quickly turns back into a washboard surface.

Drivers trying to avoid this often straddle the lanes, sometimes unexpectedly, causing a traffic hazard.

Boices Lane is marked as a county highway. The County should perform roadbed repairs and repave this stretch. The patch jobs aren't working. Stop wasting money on pothole patches and fix the underlying problem!
