Recycling wasn’t picked up on West Howard yesterday. Our bins are still at the street. Trash was collected normally.

The Barney-colored planters being installed on the asphalt of West Howard are an absolute eyesore. This just adds insult to injury in the disaster that is Reimagine West Howard.

Who chose these ridiculous colors? Who decided that putting planters and seating in the street made any sort of sense? Are we to believe that anyone wants to sit on blacktop with road rage speeders hurtling by five feet away? If there was a desire to sit on West Howard don’t you think the existing benches in the grass would be a better choice?

Who is the person who made this decision of behalf of the property-owners of West Howard Avenue? What research was done to assure no negative impact on our property values? Please provide access to all documentation showing proper diligence by the city and who, how and when these decisions were made.

Here’s a recycling truck overflowing into the road, not using the screen to contain the trash. Ever since Decatur took over their own recycling service I’ve noticed recycling trash here and there along the streets on pickup day. Here’s why. This truck wasn’t making pickups as it was full and wasn’t stopping for the bins in the road we were on. The truck is equipped with a screen that lowers over the bin. Please make sure your collection people are operating the equipment properly to prevent spillage.

The new West Howard lane striping is a complete failure. Cars turning right off any side street cannot make the turn without crossing the yellow lines into oncoming traffic as the lanes are too narrow and too close to the houses.

Cars are still speeding on West Howard but are now doing so in narrower lanes closer to the homes and walking pedestrians. Deliveries to all homes completely stop all eastbound traffic as there is nowhere for trucks to pull over in front of houses.

The Path side next to the train tracks is not used by pedestrians as much as the sidewalk on the north side since all the homes and businesses except Valero are on the north side of the street.

This project has made West Howard more dangerous for cars, pedestrians, cyclists and homeowners. The extra space needs to be on the North side where the homes are located, not next to the Path which already provides for safe walking and cycling.

This section of the sidewalk has deep footprints that present a major tripping hazard. This is a major thoroughfare for kids walking to school. This was reported years ago and nothing was done.
