For years until March of 2019 a man's name beginning with the letter "L" has had a very large encampment directly behind Hannaford on N. Ave just on the other side of the wire fence on the city park side. It took forever till finally the Police and Burlington Parks said enough. It took three 'Caterpillar' front end loader bucket loads to rid of "L's" junk which he left abandoned two months prior. The police posted these notices (pictured) during the clean-up and that was that. We figured "L" had moved on finally. Nope! In the last two months he has re-built another encampment and it's growing. In fact now there might be more than one person there.
When and what is it going to take to keep him and others from living and trashing that corner or in the entire park/trails in general? The group that hangs there leave beer cans and trash all over the woods. Isn't the city tired of spending the day cleaning up after this guy? Enough already with going through the months of court B.S. because of "his property." I knew from the start when it was cleaned up in March that someday he'd be back, and sure enough. The city advocates and the police have for ever tried to get him help and can't get a clue that he doesn't and will not accept any help but only from the bottle or can. I walk my dog every morning and have to detour around that corner to get to the stores. I try sometimes not to care but they've painted and ruined trees, painted the cities wooden bench and he's building another huge branch pile. Great for a bonfire. I have enclosed pictures to give an idea of what he's rebuilding. I would have gone in closer but people were hanging out in there with him. Pictures are from the Hannaford side of the city fence.

Greetings, Directly behind Hannaford Supermarket on 1127 North Avenue there is a massive clean-up of garbage and trash. The one photo doesn't go anywhere near the scope of the problem ( allowed only one photo to share). The homeless man who once stayed there hasn't been around for almost five months. Now there's just a couple of drunks who hang out on the nearby benches to have a beer and then they leave. This is what the man left behind and it goes along the entire length of the fence directly behind Hannaford. Two grills one which has a propain tank attached, two un-occupied tents with just trash and old cloths in them. Coats and backpacks hanging on trees. Rotted food and drinks in closed coolers. And just litter, beer cans, medication bottles and the list goes on. The city had no problem letting him stay there and I just knew that one day this is what would be left behind. This was just one person! You might as well let Hannaford know that there's a small collection of their red hand baskets among the mess. Year after year the city allows him to live in this park because they feel bad for him. Yet he leaves this for the city tax payers to clean up. This is by far the very worst I have seen. Thanks to "him"(the city is well aware who this man is). You can see this huge dump from any angle. This IS NOT good for the environment or anyone near by to look at.
  • 1201 North Avenue And Poirier Place Burlington Vermont - Burlington Electric
Tonight an elderly pedestrian taking a stroll with his dog got hit and killed by a vehicle heading south on N. Ave. This is partly due to the lack of a crosswalk at that GMT stop connecting to the GMT stop on the other side of N. Avenue. Every day myself and others trying to cross N. Ave have to play 'frogger' because drivers refuse to stop for anyone except for an occasional few who deserve a friendly wave for allowing one to cross. You have elderly housing all over this area including Thayer Housing who many try to cross some even in wheelchairs. Everytime I get off the bus and try to cross over to the condos/Thayer, I think and tell people it's only a matter of time before this happens. Well it happened tonight and not only injured someone minding his own business with his beloved dog...it killed them.
Maybe with a new crosswalk, a simple sign with the yellow LEDS like they use at UVM Medical Center for the stop signs.
Don't let this man's death go in vain!

Starting yesterday behind Thayer senior housing on North Avenue, A company(s) has started to cut down the old and very large trees on or next to Parks and Recreation's Leddy Field. Was not sure if Thayer or Cathedral Square who runs Thayer senior housing needs or has city permits to cut them down. Are they the City's trees or Thayer's. Just thought you should know if you didn't already.

In the area of 23 Laurel Court light pole 11328 (LED panel) is out. That whole end of the court is pitch dark. After everyone is in for the night, it becomes an easy target for car break ins or similar crimes. This light has been out for a long time. This I believe is the only light on Laurel Ct.

In front of 21 Dodds Court, a large section about 4 or 5 squares of sidewalk have turned to complete rubble. I mean there's no sidewalk, it has turned into broken and jagged concrete. For some reason it is that small section. It has been like this for many years (obviously) lol. Definite need of attention. Thanks
  • 49 Dobbs Ct Burlington Vermont - Burlington Electric
The light pole around 49 Dodds Ct is out. Has been for quite some time. Walking the dog every evening and finding that entire area is pitch black. I mean it is extremely dark. So there maybe more than one out on that corner. Sorry I don't have a pole number(s). However, the light is almost in front of #49.
