Traffic Issue Archived10111 South Frontage Road Saint Petersburg, Florida - St. PetersburgI have serious safety concerns and wonder what the reasoning was for the merging ramp from 4th Street North onto Gandy Blvd. directly in front of the Life Storage facility. They have placed a 2-3 foot wide lane divider-curb what seems very close to the point where the two streets merge. Coming off 4th Street there is a 1000 foot curve and then one has to look almost directly back to see the oncoming (40 mph) traffic and merge in. 400 feet later they have placed the curb/lane divider. That then extends another 1,000 feet to the right hand turn into Vantage Point Condominiums. Looking backward to see the traffic openings and accelerating up to 40 mph it is very little time to react to the curb. Since it is not painted in any way and blends into the street I am concerned that people may not see it and either end up straddled over it, or just slam a wheel into it and cause an accident. Why wouldn’t the DOT start the divider another 300 feet down the road to allow a reasonable transition onto Gandy. That would still leave over 700 feet for the turn lane to be isolated from the main road. Please see the attached .pdf showing the area.
Thank you for your time,
