Abandoned boat ArchivedEncinal Basin Alameda, California - AlamedaMon. 0900 Abandoned boat (approx 40ft sailboat) has apparently dragged its anchor overnight in the Northeast winds and is now lying hard aground against the rip rap on the west side of Encinal Basin adjacent to the Wind River campus. Estimate one tide change and this hull will be breached resulting in another costly boat removal.

City Manager - Contact/Question Archived400 Wind River Way Alameda, California - AlamedaSir:
On Dec 2nd I reported an abandoned boat tied to the wharf adjacent to the Turner building on the Wind River campus in Encinal Basin. Today Dec 13th the boat has finally sunk with the resulting oil spill. This is a twin engine 28ft. cruiser type boat and it is hung up on a piling with the stern completely under water.
Sorry that no action was taken in time to prevent the spill.

abandoned boat Archived300 Wind River Way Alameda, California - AlamedaSirs: There is an abandoned boat, CF 8416 SG tied to the wharf in Encinal Basin just off the Turner building. It is being cannibalized. It has been in Encinal Basin approximately 30 days. I see it every day on my morning walk. It is just a matter of time before someone takes something off of this boat that will breech the hull and cause it to sink. I'm sure you can imagine the pollution that will result from the engine oil and fuel being released upon sinking.
I certainly hope that this message reaches someone with the responsibility to act upon this obvious pollution inevitability.
Thank you for your consideration.
