  • 92 Kensington Avenue Jersey City, NJ, 07304, USA - West Side

This issue is regarding a tree that was cut down a few weeks ago ("tall grass or weeds" was the closest-matching category available).

The superintendent of 92 Kensington cut down a large tree - located at the back of the property - and has left the remains out to dry. He began cutting down the tree on May 20th and "finished" on or about May 23rd.

This is a serious fire hazard as temperatures rise. Residents of the building also use charcoal grills in this backyard area in warm months in this small space behind the building. It is also VERY close to the rear fences of two houses on Jewett Avenue, creating a fire hazard for all three properties (and possibly another next door to 92 Kensington). In fact, the branches and debris are also currently up against both rear fences on Jewett, and tree debris struck at least one of the fences during the amateurish "removal" of the tree.

Additionally, in the weeks since the tree was haphazardly cut down using a reciprocal saw (can you imagine?), raccoons have been living in the debris, creating a nuisance and threat to humans, pets, and patio gardens.

Please require the management to remove this fire hazard immediately. Thank you.

It has been two years since we were told that Jewett Avenue was to be resurfaced by the end of summer 2019. It didn't happen. There are long scars in the pavement from where the gas main was replaced, and where various other work has been done, but resurfacing still hasn't happened.

It looks awful and potholes large enough to swallow a toddler keep popping up, get patched, over and over again. It looks downright 3rd world. When can we finally get our street resurfaced? Somehow my property taxes keep going up but the roads keep getting worse. And considering that whatever that endless project at the intersection of JFK and Jewett Avenue has been going on for nearly a year, Covid-19 cannot be the go-to excuse. Can we get an update and a commitment from the city to follow through? Certainly Jersey City wants to do better than this. Thanks in advance.

All the trash you see here is strewn mostly between 206 Jewett Ave. (Verdandi Apt. building) and 196 Jewett Ave. (Carepoint Health, which is next door). Some of it extends even farther. It came from uncovered, unbagged recyclables from the residence at 201 Jewett Ave. I know, because I saw it all go up in a gust last night as I was trying to get home as that wicked storm whipped up. The neighbor at 201 has no intention of doing anything about it, but the street looks awful with trash everywhere. I tried to pick up what I could after my neighbor was unresponsive, but there is just too much. Can you help? Would it be possible to send someone to help me pick up all this garbage? I'm happy to help out, but have to work today as well. Thanks.

I think there must be a water main break. On Jewett Avenue between JFK and West Side Avenue (and maybe elsewhere) we had regular pressure one minute, and then no water at all. This happened about 30 minutes ago. Can't get through to Suez. Does anyone have any information about the situation. Have you guys been given an ETA or anything? Thanks in advance.

I just wanted to reach out with a big THANK YOU to all of the dedicated people who are keeping Jersey City running during these difficult times. It cannot be easy to keep all this going, and we are grateful. Good job, and good health to all of you!

There is a large truck tire next to the apartment building at this address, just off the sidewalk along JFK Boulevard. Directly on the other side of the same bit of sidewalk there are shards of what appear to be a shattered pane of glass. They have been there for days, junking up the neighborhood. This building is an ongoing problem. There appears to be no one who cleans up the garbage, debris, discarded TVs and mattresses, all of which will sit out there for days at a time. It's time to issue a summons to get their attention, methinks. Thank you.

This is similar to another report on SeeClickFix. This time, it's not advertisement cards for old cars. This time it's for a psychic. These cards are everywhere up and down the street.

If you might be wondering why this is such a problem, it's because a) Jersey City has a terrible problem with garbage in the streets, and b) I'm a member of Stop the Drop, and dutifully take my gloves, grabber, and bags up and down my end of the block picking up trash at least once a week, and c) I cannot keep up with all these ads which are, indeed, litter. What's worse, when it rains these things get plastered to the sidewalk and asphalt, making it nearly impossible to pick them up.

I'd like to see the litter problem tackled as a major issue. I've lived in a lot of cities, far bigger and denser than Jersey City, and this is the worst litter problem I've ever encountered. What can the city do? What else can I do? We've seen the city successfully tackle other issues in recent years. I'd like to see this added to that list of successes.

One last thing to add the the above list, d) garbage in the streets is ugly, and it ultimately hurts property values.

Clean, well-maintained streets are good for everyone.

On a regular basis, someone from this business walks the streets dropping these cards on the sidewalks, tossing them onto the front steps of homes, and putting a few on cars. They throw down multiples, littering the street with so many that it's an impossible task to pick them all up? Is this legal? Because it's litter. As a member of "Stop the Drop" I'm trying my best to pick them up but I don't understand why this business or any other is allowed to litter public and private property with these cards. What can be done?

Paper and cardboard were not picked up from the apartment building at 206 Jewett last night. Please have someone come and pick it up. There is rain in the forecast for the next few days, which will only make matters worse. Thank you in advance.

Our paper recyclables were not picked up last night. They took the cardboard, but left the full bin that was sitting right next to the cardboard. Can someone come pick it up today? Thank you.

After multiple calls to Jersey City Animal Control, and two conversations with Zabib (forgive the spelling if incorrect), I learned from her that traps can be obtained from Animal Control for a deposit of $100 (each, presumably). The number I was give to get more information is 201-547-4147. After multiple attempts to call them after their 2 p.m. opening time, and after leaving two messages for callback, I still have a squirrel that has been tearing up my basement, my basement ceiling, and who knows what else. I should point out the I am, indeed, a taxpayer, PAY PROPERTY TAXES IN JC, and think I should be getting a little more support from Animal Control which I first contacted about the squirrel in my house on FRIDAY, MAY 4TH. It's now the 9th. Please put someone in contact with me about obtaining the traps. I don't have a care and cannot just visit their office blindly, without knowing if they have any traps at present. I would also like to point out that my wife and I have actively supported Liberty Humane with both funds and adoptions, as well as helping to trap feral cats. A little bit of an assist from Animal Control doesn't seem like too much to ask. Please see what you can do. Thank you.
