Sidewalk - Damage AcknowledgedMacarthur Fwy & 35th St & I-580 Oakland, CA 94609, USA - Hoover-FosterThe sidewalk on MLK at 35th Street is now completely blocked by items from the homeless encampment there, as is the curb lane of the street, requiring all pedestrians (including seniors, children, and parents with strollers) to have to walk completely into the street in order to pass. This is always dangerous, but even more so now that it gets dark later and stays dark longer. PLEASE work with the folks living in the encampment to ensure that the sidewalk is always passable. I've seen several close calls with cars and pedestrians, and I don't want the city to wait until someone gets hit to act.

Illegal Dumping Archived3501-3599 M.L.K. Jr Way Oakland, CA 94609, USA - LongfellowThe pile of garbage on the west side of MLK at 36th Street has now grown to be nearly 1/4 block long. The city needs to get this removed, and also needs to plan for ongoing garbage removal here, as the encampment does not have its own garbage pick-up. This trash is a hazard to both the residents of the camp and to the many neighbors who pass through here every day.

Let me start by saying that I am NOT asking for a full-scale eviction of the people currently living under the overpass here.
However, there is now a very large full-size tent on the east side (Grove Shafter Park side) that is completely blocking the sidewalk. Also, on the west side, there are very large piles of objects that take up the majority of the sidewalk.
Again, I'm not asking for the people here to be evicted. I'm just asking the city to work with them to be sure that the sidewalks are still accessible to all pedestrians, including those with strollers, carts, and wheelchairs.

Sidewalk Acknowledged3500-3598 M.L.K. Jr Way Oakland, CA 94609, USA - Hoover-FosterThe homeless encampment on MLK between 35th and 36th has gotten worse and worse. On both sides of the street, the sidewalk is blocked by the items owned by the folks camping there, which means pedestrians need to walk in the street to pass--extra dangerous now that it's dark so early and that area is very poorly lit anyway. In addition, much of the underpass now smells very strongly of urine. I know these folks have nowhere else to go, and I'm not asking that they be evicted. I'm just asking that city officials work with the people here to provide garbage collection, sanitary facilities, and other safety measures, and that the dangerous blocking of the sidewalks ends.
