The equipment box on the right in photo is clearly no longer in use. It should have been removed years ago. Please remove it, as it is an eyesore. The location is 707 Windham, between O'Shaughnessy and Humes Ave.

A few years ago a city contractor fixed places in the sidewalk where significant cracks had developed between sidewalk segments. That was a good solution but more bumps / cracks have developed along the Pratt Ave sidewalk. Can they be smoothed out as was done in the past?

The amount of soil in the garden boxes at Lewter Family Park has gotten low and it's time to start planting. Please add some soil. About one and a half yards should take care of all boxes. Thank you.

The basketball "court" at Lewter Family Park is in very bad shape. Asphalt surface is rough, not level, and has big cracks. Please resurface it. The court is actually used, in contrast to the bocce ball court which was a waste of money. More kids & adults would shoot baskets if the surface was in proper condition and maintained.

Since a tree on the west side of Lewter Family Park had to be removed, the park bench which was shaded by that tree is now in full sun. It will be too hot most of the day for using that bench. It should be relocated about 100 feet or so to the south so that it's shaded by one of the remaining healthy trees.

It's dangerous to cross Pratt Ave. or turn onto Pratt at this intersection because visibility is hampered by cars parked along the side of Pratt (north side). It would help substantially if a convex mirror was installed on the utility pole currently located on the SE corner of the intersection. Such mirrors are widely used in other countries.
With current conditions it's just a matter of time before somebody going south on Windham pulls out onto Pratt and is hit by a westbound vehicle.

One or more of the Crape Myrtles in front of the Optimist Rec Center has crape myrtle bark scale disease. Pretty bad -- lots of the little white parasites on it. Other crape myrtles at the location have gone missing, perhaps because of CMBS. Treatment might prevent further losses.

Lower portion of Bankhead Pkwy (between Maysville and Toll Gate) has a very bad litter problem. Trash is mostly in ditch, across the road from the sidewalk.
  • Andrew Jackson Way Ne Huntsville, AL, 35801, USA - Huntsville
There's a programming problem with the traffic signal controller for the 5 Points intersection. Traffic going east on Pratt Ave. gets a green arrow for at least 15 seconds regardless of whether there are any cars in the left turn lane. This causes a delay for westbound traffic on Pratt, wanting to go straight across the intersection. This has been the case for the past few months. Previously, the green arrow only came on when there was traffic wanting to turn left onto Andrew Jackson. It's an annoying situation and causes traffic delay.

Some of the crape myrtle trees at Optimist Rec Center appear to have crape myrtle bark scale disease. Probably others on public property do also. Is the city taking any measures to deal with this problem?
  • 1210 Pratt Ave Ne Huntsville, AL, 35801, USA - Huntsville
Two dogwood trees on the city ROW in front of 1210 Pratt have branches hanging down to about the 5-foot level. If one isn't paying attention or is distracted while walking, a bruise on the head will result.

The problem of a very rough track crossing has now been repaired and done properly this time. I'm not sure but I think the first repair was done by Norfolk Southern and was unacceptable. The second repair may have been done under contract to the city. Anyway, that issue is resolved and thanks are in order for whoever did it. They got it right this time.

Garbage collectors emptied the trash bin and a couple of other containers of yard waste but they left the bags of leaves -- for the second week. Bags have been there since 10/14/19. Has there been some change in the policy about picking up bagged yard waste?

The rough nature of this crossing has been previously mentioned by one or more people. I think it is the responsibility of the RR company, not the city, to maintain the crossing. Presumably the city can apply pressure. I would just like to point out that they CAN do a better job than they do. The RR track crossing on Governors Drive by First Baptist Church is a good example. It is properly done and very smooth.

The covered picnic table area at Maple Hill Park (tables and concrete slab) is dirty and covered with debris. It's not in suitable condition for the intended use. It would be very nice if a maintenance person could sweep or use a blower to clean it up. Thank you.

The crossing where Holmes Ave. intersects with the rail spur just east of the Parkway is in very poor condition, basically worn out. I presume the tracks belong to the Huntsville & Madison County Railroad. I also presume it would be their responsibility to keep such a crossing in proper condition.

No issue, just kudos to the Sanitation Dept. guys on our route. They do a great job dealing with a huge amount of leaves which I put in garbage cans and black bags. I was there when they came by yesterday (Monday). The guy riding shotgun and loading stuff was very good and friendly too. Much appreciated.
