  • Dangerous Dead Trees On Public Thoroughfare Decatur, Georgia - Decatur

I've recently noticed 2 dead spruce trees on the public grassy divide between Chief Matthews drive and East Lake Drive, just beyond the railway bridges. These trees are leaning towards the street and so could potentially cause fatalities when they fall on the street.
A similar dead tree is located on Howard Ave, opposite the entrance to Landsdown Ave, but this tree is not leaning over the pavement.

Thanks for your attention to this matter,
    Regards,

    Maire

    India,

I was referred to you by Mark Livingston with Arborguard Tree Specialists. I had him out to survey our new home at 123 1st Avenue.

In the process of doing this, he identified an issue with a very large tree fronting 127 1st Avenue, which is home to a park maintained by City of Decatur. This tree has visible signs of substantial rot on both the trunk (large mushrooms) and the canopy (substantial fungus penetration). Apart from this, the tree is extremely close to the street's power lines, which poses an added risk. I've attached photos of this to this email in hopes that you can understand mine and my wife's significant concerns. As a frame of reference, I've attached several pictures of the most concerning issues. Fungus on the top of the tree, mushroom growth on the bottom, and growth into the power lines...

From my perspective, this tree poses any of the following risks:

    - Ability for all/part of the tree to fall, which could damage cars from nearby homes, cars parked along 1st Avenue, or my family's residence (at a minimum)
    - Potential for fire due to proximity of power lines
    - Potential for power loss and associated risks in the event this power line was knocked over

I would really appreciate your perspective - and action - to address what I believe poses a very real threat to my neighbors and my family.

    Thank you for your consideration,

    Hi India.

I wanted to bring to your attention a potentially hazardous street tree in front of 127 Coventry Road. It is an old 12" Dogwood that is totally hollow and half of the canopy recently ripped off. The rest of the canopy is precariously overhanging the sidewalk and street, and could fail at anytime. If you are in that area sometime soon, please take a look. I had a client at another address on that street complain about it to me.

    Thanks,
    Jamie

Subject: Large Water Oaks on city property falling apart...

    Hi India,
I wanted to see if you could take a look at two Water Oaks next to our property. Not sure what to think of them...We have lost power (with a hole in the side of the house from flying cable wires) due to large branches falling off the tree, currently there is a branch that looks 8" cal that is dead hanging over our power line and last night our power went out due to a huge branch falling on the power line going to the apartments next door to us.

There are other huge branches hanging over where my wife parks and kids play. Can you come out and take a look at them to check both the safety and vitality of the trees? Can we have the dead branch hanging over our power line removed? Waking up to the fire department and power company sawing at midnight stinks and I have a feeling this will happen again.

The two oaks are in the Montgomery Street ROW ( about 15' off the road) between our house at 204 Northern Ave 30030 and the Apartment building next door to us. One block from Ponce De Leon.

I'd be happy to meet with you on site if needed.

    Thanks!

    India,

Thanks for your help with the tree on Marshall Street. Since I did not hear back from you I had our contract landscaper remove the damage limb from the tree in the sidewalk.
We currently need all of the trees trimmed on West Ponce De Leon Avenue in front of the Artisan. I am getting complaints from residents, board members and the retail tenants.
Is this your responsibility and If yes, how quickly can you get a crew to trim the trees? If this is our responsibility, please let me know and I will have the building’s landscape company perform the work.

Thank you in advance for your prompt assistance.
